UNDER THE LOWER INTAKE in the v of the motor. its an easy fix and the gaskets are reusable. you cant see it until you take off the manifold.

Every repair is easy for him, I think he's a mechanic. I would consider it a big pain in the a$$ though. The S/C has to come off to access the knock sensors. Some have done the job themselves and I think it was 4-5 hour.

Shocar4: not to flame you, but practically everybody that wanted more boost has been thru this, but we can walk you through it. A little advice though, search and read some of the old threads about this subject matter.

First, you need to get the code read and get back to us (autozone or whatever), even if it is not current, it should still be in history, unless you had it cleared. If it is the knock sensor, which it kind of sounds like it is, I agree with wang2k for the quick fix of running the front bank knock sensor to both ECU inputs. I ran like that for over a year. There are other/more long term solutions.

This thread is full of information about more boost, ECU rewire, etc. Should be an explanantion on how to rewire the front sensor to both ECU inputs, maybe around page 4, but read the whole thing.

The intake assembly must be removed to access the two knock sensors. See, next picture.

Removing the by-pass water/coolant hose will expose the two knock sensors.

okay new update on my cel! i have rewired my bank 1 to the bank 2 in the ecu and all is great until i turn my a/c on! everytime i hit the a'c button, about 10 miles later it goes into limp mode and i get the cel.....it always happens when i am 30 miles from an autozone...so i am going to go this weekend and get the codes......what the heck is up with the a/c tripping my knock sensors?

A/C on MIL

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Wed Aug 02, 2006 1:11 pm

That is really a weird situation. There is no direct connection between the AC and the knock sensor circuit, so maybe you hooked up the knock sensor wire to a AC wire? Though I don't know how that could have happened. The knock sensor wires are both clear covered and by themselves on the big lower connector to the ECU. You just cut the #1, and splice it into #2. I soldered mine to prevent the connection from coming loose.

Perhaps the AC compressor itself is causing a knock but that should just retard the timing. You do need to replace any knock sensor that sets a MIL, if you haven't done that yet, that is likely the problem. From my experience, once a knock sensor "blows" and sets a MIL it has to be replaced, or it will continue to set a MIL (CEL). They break internally.

yeah it' weird i did the rewire between the two clear wires and everything is fine, but after about ten miles with my ac on, then i go into cel and limp mode, so i reset the battery and shut off the ac and i am fine! ahhhh what to do? hey you might be able to help me with my "bouncing rpm's" post!!!

Have you replaced the Knock Sensor 2?
