Fuel pressure

Fuel pressure

Postby tucky » Sun Jul 06, 2008 2:47 pm

Hi guy it's been a while since I posted on here, hope everyone is well?

I'm running a 00 1mz in my mr2, with a trd supercharger at 4 psi. We have just fitted a return system on the fuel rails and a fuel pressure gauge. The fuel pressure was reading 86 psi and we thought this too high but when we turned back the FPR down to 55 psi it seems to die abit betwen gear changes. Does anyone running a boosted 1mz know what the fuel pressure should be? Or is it a case of suck it and see?

The Gen 4 Camry (97-01) and Gen 1 Solara do not have a return fuel system. the Gen 3 Camry (92-96) does. So I;m not sure if that would make a difference. Eye8Pussies here ont he forum is running the TRD SC on his Gen 3 Camry, and has an aftermarker fuel regulator and some other stuff, so I think he may be able to help. I'll let him know to check this thread to see if he can help you.

Thanks for the reply, we modded an exsisting camry fuel rail so it now has a return. I'll try to find some pics of the mod.

I have a '99 Camry (Same as '00) Factory Manual in pieces on PDF. If you want, I can email the section for the Fuel, or the entire thing, if that will be of any help. I'm still learning this stuff, so I can't help much myself.

I run mine around 45 psi at idle if that helps- but that's with bigger injectors

when I was running my stock injectors, I had it jacked up to 55psi or so at idle, otherwise I would run lean on my bottom end

Pics and words taken from my mates mr2 mk1 1mz swap.

So the only way is to have the 1mz rails tapped out and machined on the opposite ends,so i sent my rails to Mr H who did an outstanding job on them, for all you 1mz'ers i highly recommend getting this done by him!

Here are my rails fresh back from adam and pimped.... ha ha pimp my rails!

Now ive used a 3vz return fitting at the newly opened rail ends.....

and chopped a 3vz feed union down on the top rail exit.....

So i can now mount a nice aftermarket FPR after the second rail and i now have a fully return style 1mz fuel system.

Just had this done to my car but I still need some tinkering to get the fuel pressure right.

Are you going to increase boost once you get the return fuel system ironed out? Also, what pump will you be using?

I ask b/c many people forego a walbro when doing an inline pump. I know Jim used a bosch with his return setup.
