SAFC vs CPE tunable

SAFC vs CPE tunable

Postby 99V6solaraSE » Wed Jan 09, 2008 10:00 pm

Man i feel like im just being a post whore now haha

but once i finally get the s/c on i plan on getting a tune.
I have the non tunable cpe on right now and if i remember correctly theyll let me upgrade to the tunable for 150$

Ive been doing some research and there are lovers and haters on both sides for both applications. Each has their pros and cons.

The safc seems to be more widely known, easier to use, and is more convenient.

Cpe has more tunable points. Its based on a 30x30 map whereas the safc is on a 2x2... from what ive been reading on other forums.

anyone have any input on this?

I think for the supercharged application i would want the added features of the SAFC instead of just the CPe piggyback, but I dont know as much about it.

Can anybody name them? Not trying to call you out, I just would like to know.

Why? Ease of use? Looks?

I am thinking about going with the SS unit, but still researching and trying to get my CP-e dialed in. I run an OBII scantool and the CP-e software at the same time to see how it affects my short term fuel trims.

All of the features are listed on Apexi's website. I dont know all of the CPe features for sure so I really cant say, but basically I chose the SAFC because it is a widely known platform. I plan to have the car dyno tuned at Monkey Wrench Racing and they use the SAFC of most of their project cars, so they already know how to tune a toyota with it... thats why I chose it.

SAFC IS a better choice for you. CPE tunable will require a laptop to tune every time. Makes it harder to be user friendly on the road. SAFC also gives you the ability to monitor your car and its tunable right there anywhere if needed be. It has more freedom to it over the CPE box. Not saying CPE EC box is bad, but if your going all out, SAFC is a better choice for ease of you.

And you still blew your knock sensor.

Probably a good call. Since the first time my tuner had the CP-e software he somehow messed with it and next thing I know I had a cel and it was reading too lean. I reinstalled my tune and everything went back to normal. :bday:

Yes, I'm working out my cat issue first. And then i'm going to work on my tune.
My rear (after cat) sensor won't light up. I'm buying a new sensor to see what happens. JPP says it's my tune. The dyno shop says it's my cat.
Also, bought the Innovate Motorsport wideband LC-1 for tuning down the road.
