Fuel pressure regulator

Hey guys, was talking with Tony the Tiger and he said that when you're boosted (i'm going supercharged) you need either supra injectors or a 255lph fuel pump with a fuel pressure regulator.
Is the fuel pressure regulator needed? Isn't this all controlled by ECU or the pressure needs to be higher than stock to tune the car better?
Is this the kind of fuel regulator needed?

the fuel pressure regulator is needed because the amount of fuel isn't solely controlled by the ecu- it's a mixture of ecu and vacuum pressure at the fuel rails and vsvs on the rails. as such, the FPR helps regulate the pressure at the actual rails using vacuum pressure.

the main use of the FPR is for the rising pressure feature with boost, so that- simply put- fuel pressure increases at a specific ratio while boost increases.

and yes, that's basically what you need. the only thing though, is that I would pick one that specifically lists having the rising-boost pressure feature (I'm not sure if all FPRs have them), and one from a brand name company.....the FPR is a very important component of your fuel system and a failure in its function can lead to catastrophic results- including an engine fire if it leaks in any way.

The ebay items I checked have all adjustable psi from 20-140psi (they say that they are good for 1000hp). Is that what you mean by rising-boost pressure or something else? Does it need a vacuum port to change pressure depending on boost?

^ yes, that's exactly what I was talking about 1:1 pressure rising with boost

and yes, all fprs have a vacuum port, as the majority (if not all) stock fprs are also vacuum controlled. I am just not sure if all aftermarket FPRs read boost though, is all, or have rising pressure with boost..

gabe hooked me up with a bolt on kit for my camry! the FPR he sold me is a aeromotive. i would not buy anything else than that. as king said the fpr is stupid important!!!

about 420$ for the COMPLETE bolt on fuel system, including all hoses, hi flow fuel filter, aeromotive FPR and anodized fitings

does the fuel regulator apply to a 1999 camry v6 going boost in a few weeks

^ if you change your returnless fuel system to a return-style fuel system, then yes, you can then also use an FPR, otherwise, you can't

i'll get you all hooked up. Honestly if your staying TRD blower for a while I wouldnt bother doing the return style conversion. under 300whp with the supra injectors, fuel mod, and walbro 255 will be overkill already.

Thanks Gabe, I am just gonna stick with the TRD blower for awhile and then move on from there. I will contact you this October to hatch a plan for the rebuild
