something that I've noticed for a while since I did my swap is that in between shifts, either up or down shifting, once load is off the engine and the throttle is closed (the ecu is out of open loop), and I go back hard on the throttle, the engine stutters, AFRs hit 16/17 and then goes rich and the car picks up and pulls like mad.

long story short, my guess is that the ecu isn't going into open loop fast enough to compensate for the boost.

I noticed this even more today and it became more apparent because I just finally installed my twm shortshifter and I'm shifting faster than before.

to not though, under normal driving conditions where I don't hit boost, this doesn't occur.

is this anything else that ppl on here have experienced?

Because my car is a 94 camry with an older ecu, I'm not sure if it's because it's older and can't go into open loop fast enough. it wasn't an issue before when I was automatic, but I presume that it's because it takes time for the tranny to downshift, and within that time, the ecu then goes into open loop.

does anybody here have experience at all with the URD calibration unit?
(for those who don't know, it hooks up to your boost line so that when any boost is read, it tricks the ecu into going to open loop immediately)

info on my car:

6psi

fuel availability is not a problem

don't have any experience on the URD unit, but my tranny/engine/ecu doesn't do that. That would be my guess as well, the ECU or the more unlikely since I know how you are with your car, a plug or something to that affect.

hmmm....well, at least I have confirmation that it's not really supposed to be like that...

I guess I'll talk to URD about it and see what they think as well.

I've pm'd tony the tiger on TN, but still waiting for his reply. I know he's actually installed the unit on a turbo kia after complaining about it not going into open loop fast enough to handle the boost.

thanks for the confirmation
