I'm not able to see well...what is the average and peak power difference between 12.5 and 12.1 A/F ratio runs ??

Dyno numbers

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Mon Mar 26, 2007 9:43 am

Before you get all excited about those dyno numbers, you might want to check to see if the dyno was reading RPM correctly. When I first Dynoed my car a few years ago on a Dynojet, all my HP figures were doubled because after a certain RPM (I think its something like 3000) our ignition system goes into a weird mode and the Dynojet pick-up for the ignition wire only reads the spark every other time doubling power readings! The only proper way to dyno your car is to use a crank pick up for RPM. This will give true RPM readings and true HP readings. The dyno operator knew my S/Ced 1MZ wasn't putting down 400 to 600 + HP and figured this one out real fast!

That's a good point Jim. It took him about 2-5 minutes trying to get the RPMs to stop jumping on the computer, only until they stopped jumping, did he start to tune. I think I had the same problem you did, at least now I know about it. So the next time I go back, so I can tell him, where does he need to hook up to get the correct readings?

Dyno crank trigger

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Mon Mar 26, 2007 3:07 pm

What the dyno operator needs to do to get a reliable RPM reading on our Toyotas is to put a piece of reflective tape on the crank pulley. Then they position a laser crank rpm monitor. It sends out a light and every time the crank comes around it reads a revolution. Very accurate. A wire style pick up does not work.

Sebas,

I'm not entirely sure, since the 12.5:1 was done with the stock MAF and the 12:1 was done with the Supra MAF. I'd have a better answer for you if I used the same MAF consistently. Sorry I can't answer your question better.

Not much of a judgement, but between switching MAFs and de-tuning .5 A/F ratio, I still gained 53 WHP.

^^^I've been wondering where you've been G. But yeah, would like to go to another dyno shop and do what Jim recommends to get a more accurate reading.
