Rewiring the ECU (How?)

Rewiring the ECU (How?)

Postby bunthy » Mon Sep 26, 2005 6:04 am

Hey guys,

Well i think I blew my knock sensor. I didn't get it check yet but from reading some of the threads, I think I did. The car still runs fine, not sluggish, but I'm not flooring it since the CEL came on.

I read that Jim's Fuel upgrade will help or rewiring the ECU. The JFU is pretty expensive, at least from my POV, so I wanna go the rewiring route. Do you guys have a DIY tutorial for it? Or a weblink to get to? Also would it be something that I would be able to do? I'm handy here and there but not hardcore stuff.

Thanks!

p.s. My car is a 96 avalon running @ 4psi and IK22 plugs.

This thread is full of information, I remember pictures of the ECU behind the glove box, but don't know if it's in here.

Take the glove box out and look for (2) clear shielded wires.

If I would have known, I would have gladly spent $200 on the FA Fuel Kit to prevent blowing a knock sensor.

Thanks Fletch. I was reading through the thread and saw the diagram (E11, E10, E9, E8, E7). On my Avalon, when I wired teh EBC, I only had E10, E9, E8, E7. But E10 was the biggest one, I believe as big as E11.

These wires should be here right? Once I do that, and if it works, do I need to replace my knock sensors? The engine doesn't knock....at least I don't hear it....

wekk I tried it out. the wiring is a little bit different but in any case it worked. the CEL is off now and everyth8ing feels good so far.

On the 96 avalon, the wires is located on E8 # 14 and 15, with 15 being the rear #1 knock sensor. Their both clear wires. Thanks alto for your help.
