REAR MOUNTED Turbos

I have seen lots of sc and a few twin tuboed solaras, butu has any one ever seen or built a rear monted turbo 1MZFE?

Like this guy did for his Tc.

I think I would rather SC my lara but I wanted to kick this idea around and see what all of you guys thougt. Let me know if you think it is worth doing, and what problems might be run into.

its possible.. But SO much fabrication work would have to be done.

if I turbo I would prob use a small one to reduce the lag, and the fab work is mostly bending pipe.

doing a rear mount on a solara would be much easier than up front....but a rear mount set up on a tc seems kinda retarded considering there's plenty of room up front and there's already kits available. I thought about doing it, but decided against it....the thought of some jealous a$$hole with a hacksaw scares me. A properly sized turbo would have slightly more lag than a normal set up...........all you need is a smaller turbine housing

The biggest problem I see is the turbo sucking in water because the air filter is so low to the ground. I bet that tC owner can't drive it in the rain because the tires would kick up soo much water.

^^ thats what the sock on the filter and the shield in front of it is for. There's a guy who did a rmt on his old cavalier and DD'd it in the snow

if it weren't for so much bendy twisty pipping, it is an awesome setup.

no need to worry about added engine heat. I would assume turbo housing would be longer lasting as well, excluding road salt if you get any.

but overall efficient.

I have seen some other cars that do a large U set up, intake up front ducted to the turbo then back to the front.

little to no heat soak, but could be a bunch of hidden leaks.

I first saw this done on a 350z, it was pretty sick.

there is not much snow in NC so salt not to much of a problem.

i think it could be done rather easy. Didn't paladin06greg or someone else go with a true dual exhaust? You could run the compressor discharge side along side the exhaust...use some exhaust wrap on the intake and exhaust pipes, or ceramic coat it to keep the heat in the exhaust and out the intake. A guy on homemadeturbo.com did something similar to this on an Infiniti Q45 with a massive T- 70

Heres a LS1 with it on there. The dyno charts are impressive.. expecially for the price tags.

I just noticed that this tc is an I4

I am very much considering this. It seems that the only upgrades he needed was new injectors and headers.
