Postby xodessitx » Wed Jun 23, 2004 8:40 am

has any one had the left drift fixed on their 2004 solara. If yes, can you please let me know what the dealer has done to correct the problem. i went twice to fix the problem, and now the car pulls to the right instead of left, they did the wheel alignment 2 times. also the steering wheel is not centered, it is slightly tilted to the left, is this being caused by the drift problem?please let me know its very important, thanks

If your car qualifies from the VIN below you should talk to the service manager and get an explanation. Did they apply the TSB ST002-04 or what did they do. If you are not satisfied contact Toyota.

I posted this to Left drift/pull final resolution

On February 4, 2004 Toyota issued TSB ST002-04 to specifically address the left drift/pull problem with the 2004 model year Avalon, Camry and Solara vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

Solara

4 Cylinder 4T1CA3#P#4U016694
6 Cylinder 4T1CE3#P#4U836000

The major fix is to re-align both front coil springs.

I have only driven my car 60 miles but as far as I am concerned it is fixed. It now drives like it should.

After all my complaining about the service dept at the dealer where I bought my Solara, let me compliment Tempe Toyota and their Service Manager Glen Polich and Assistant Service Manager Lowell St. John along with Toyota Field Technical Specialist Scott Wright.

Scott ordered the fix with no hassle. Glen and Lowell kept me informed of the progress. Tempe Toyota gave me my choice of a rental car. I chose the Prius Hybrid gas/electric for fun. I was impressed with the Prius but it is no Solara.

Toyota says they have 100% success with correcting the left pull problem with this TSB.

I would recommend anyone with a Solara that qualifies for this fix to have it done. If in warranty there should be no charge.

Thanks to all that prvided information on the left pull problem.

Left drift fixed...

Postby DocJohn » Fri Jul 16, 2004 6:26 am

I had my ‘04 Solara for exactly two weeks as of yesterday and was experiencing the slight left drift problem as many other owners have already described. Thanks to SolaraGuy.com I was able to determine that my car fell into the VIN range specified in TSB ST002-04. I went to the Toyota dealership yesterday “armed” with this information and told them I wanted to get the problem fixed. (The service manager was obviously impressed by my knowledge of TSB ST002-04 and asked me if I worked for Toyota (I don’t)).
They told me they followed the procedures as outlined in TSB ST002-04 and the bottom line is my left drift problem is gone. The only problem is that now my steering wheel is about 5 - 10 degrees off-center to the left (just enough to annoy me), but that’s an easy fix I’ll have them correct next week.

That's exactly what they did to mine about the steering wheel, it was off and it was not fix during the second visit. It took a third visit for them to fix the left drift and make the steering wheel straight.
Glad you got the left drift fixed and GL on the steering wheel issue...haha.

Of geez, not another problem.......right drift. Now, that one is new to me and to this board. I have heard the left drift problem has been resolved with the TSB. If you feel your car is now drifting right, take it back. Let the madness stop already with these annoyances with the Solara. There have been many, IMO, minor complaints that have nothing to sdo with the mechanics of the engine and tranny. That's good news. The bad news is the many annoyances like the rattling of the front dash and rear deck, farting sunroofs, possible ECU problems, sulfer smell from catalytic converter, left drift, and now possibly right drift. Man, I may just trade my car in for a 2005 and see if they have addressed these problems.

Sorry, maybe I was't clear... I don't have right drift problem now. The car has nice, neutral (center) alignment now with no pull or drift. The problem is when the car is going straight the wheel is slightly turned to the left. This is because they didn't set the steering wheel to dead center when they re-set the front alignment.
I had this happen on other cars after a wheel alignment job and its an easy fix.

Hey Mike,

I would just do a swap. Oh, to answer your question, I actually had them done through an exchange company. I traded them my wheels for a set of chromed dipped wheels and some $$$. Good deal. Sorry about going off topic.

Thanks for the updates, I was really curious as to how the chrome dipped or plated works.

I fixed my left-drift by changing my tires. I took off the stock tires and replaced them with Michelin Pilots. So far the left-drift is gone!
