Has anyone checked to see if your gas mileage runs about what they claim, which is 21 City and 29 Highway?

Just wondering if the MPG average is about , say 25mpg on ave.

Well, my normal daily drive is about 40-45 miles in complete rural area, and it's giving me an AVG of 18.5 MPG, last weekend I went with my family to a little trip out of town, complete highway trip, and it gave me 24 MPG.

You might be still in the process of breaking it in. I get about 18-20 just straight stop and go city driving and high 20's straight highway maintaining pretty constant speeds. To get the 21/29 numbers you pretty much have to not accelerate hard ever and try to maintain as constant a speed as possible. Those numbers are always a little bit optimistic. The numbers totally depend on how heavy a foot you have.

The reason I ask is because of this article I read about gas mileage claims not being exactly honest.

Here is the link to the article I'm referring to.

Wow, good article. But it said hybrid cars are more off target from the EPA estimates than conventional cars. Like I said, it's always very hard to get gas mileage equal to or very close to the EPA estimates.

Mine sucks, at least it does compared to my 96 Le 2.2. That got excellent mileage. I think I am lucky to get 19 or so in city...

I average over 21MPG and I have a heavy foot. I use the lowest grade gas as well(87 Octane) with no ill effect. Super unleaded maybe worth 1mpg better.

My trip computer shows 24.3 mpg mainly in stop and go traffic (in So. Cali) and some hills.

However, when I do a manual calculation at fill-up, I calculate 21 mpg.

I drive it pretty casually, and floor it on occasion when I need to pass someone in a hurry.

I live in D.C. and average between 19-21 MPG. Unless you do highway driving or do very little stop and go you're not going to get any better. Remember this is a V6.

SUV mileage

Postby jmack » Sat May 15, 2004 5:46 am

I get 16-17 mpg in combined city / highway driving. On the road, I get 22mpg at a steady 65, and 20 mpg at a steady 85. Took car in to dealer, and as always, "nothing wrong" I had left drift fix attemped 3 times. Pull not too bad now, but I am wondering if some alignment issue is hurting my mileage. BTW, the computer is very optimistic about mileage. Only way to get accurate mileage is divide miles by the gallons you are putting in.

I've only had my v6 convertible for about a week. On the first tank I got about 26.3 mpg. My daily commute involves about 5 minutes city, 25-30 minutes hwy, and then another 10 minuets city.

I was pretty happy with the numbers, but drove her real easy to break-in the engine.

doesn't the convertible get worse mileage than the coupe due to the added weight of the structural pieces that have to be added to compensate for the missing sheetmetal of the roof?
i would be curious to know the difference in mileage between the two.

just as i thought, i just checked and the drop top weighs 3549lbs,
the sport weighs 3417lbs, and the se weighs 3439lbs. quite a difference between the convertible and the others. not to mention the aerodynamic drag of a cloth top when its closed and even mor drag when its open. something to think about.
