My buddy wants to race me. He has an Acura CL, NOT TYPE S vs. my 2004 Toyota Solara V6 Sport. Will I win? cuz he wants to bet some money...

Theoretically, I think Solara will win.

Theoretically, I think Solara will win.

TL:
Engine: 3.2L 24v SOHC
HP: 225 @ 5600 RPM
Torque: 216 @ 4700 RPM
Weight: 3470 lbs

Solara
Engine: 3.3L 24v DOHC
HP: 225 @ 5600 RPM
Torque: 240 @ 3600 RPM
Weight: 3230 lbs.

It seems like both cars go almost same fast,
But I think solara will be a little bit faster…
1st reason, solara use 3.3L engine which is bigger than 3.2L, and it makes engine response faster. Moreover, solara use DOHC engine; it’s like adding a little size turbo on the car, it boost up car way more faster than SOHC.
2nd reason, both car reach max hp about the same time, but solara’s torque kicks in way much faster and more power than TL; that’s mean, solara will take off much faster than TL.
Final reason, solara is little lighter than TL. And weight is an important factor to affect take off.

Well, it’s all my guessing, no 100% accurate~ ^^;;
But, I think it can gives u an idea that ur car is actually BETTER than TL…

I say no contest at all and Solara will always win. No CL without Type S trim has ever even come close to the performance of the Solara in major magazine testing. The higher torque and lower weight of the Solara makes it the winner.

I beat a guy in a CL Type S. Not bad, but enough that I pulled on him even though he got the jump. He quit after I eeked past him. Not if we would have started at the same time, my guess is that I would have pulled him by a car length to 60.

Non Type S??? No problem. Numbers mean nothing (claimed HP, etc). The 5-speed auto in the Solara will allow it to pull into the meat of the power band much quicker. Race him for $100, then take him out for a beer....

I cant even begin to explain how many cars ive beaten up on with my Solara. I mean im not stupid enough to race any car i come across, i have a pretty good knowledge of what will be a good race (for me) and also what would smoke me. If i put bets down on these races, i would have made enough to pay off my car for about 6 months already. For example races won against:
Maxima 95-03
Newer Altima 3.3SE
300zx (non-turbo)
V6 Accords all day
04 Audi 1.8T
IS300
GS300
Newer 325 & 330 BMW's
...It's all in good fun though, and to be completely honest, the only car ive ever gone against (just for the h3ll of it) and lost to was my buddies GS400. For the most part though, my car hung right with him up till about 85 but after that he pulled real hard on me.

Hard to believe you beat a BMW 330. That guy must have been a lousy driver. Both the auto and manual versions should beat the Solara if decent drivers in both cars. Also it would be real close with an automatic CL type S.

My sister owns a CL typeS auto and it is fast, but the Gen 2 Solara manual would win by a nose at 60 and a car length at 100. I am assuming "perfect" drivers for both cars.

330 is not really that impressive, my ex owned one and people were more afraid of the label than anything.

The only Gen 2 manual is a 4 banger. No V6 has a manual. I doubt the 4 banger manual would beat many cars.

Road and Track has V6 Solara weight as 3360 curb weight 3515 test weight(with driver?)
No way a Solara V6 is going to Beat a CL type S. My brother laughs at me all the time as he pulls away while my foot is on the floor. Notice the new TL posting 5.7 or 5.9 to 60.
Solara is going 6.6 to 6.8 Thats getting smoked in my book.
I love my car but there is no way its going to show taillights to a V6 Accord or type S Acura

It is totally up to driver
its not a car
all those magazines 0-60s are done by professional drivers with their maximum time,
us driving in street 1~2seconds it is totally up to driver who can really drive.....

solara can definitely hold up with Cl type S

I'm about ready to race him... It's been awhile because I wanted to break my car in first. I wasn't sure if it would harm the engine if I didn't so I wanted to hit 1000 miles before I pushed it just in case...
