Falling out of love

Falling out of love

Postby estlin » Sat Apr 17, 2004 11:37 am

My Solara bores me now. When I bought her I thought it was the best compromise between style, power, and luxury (and affordability), and while that still remains true, I think my tastes have changed. I literally almost fall asleep daily commuting in this thing...it's a bit too quiet and comfy.

I'm curious if anyone here has experienced trading in an essentially new car, and the financial hit they took. I have about 5K miles on it, and owe about 12K on it.

if the ride is too smooth..then drop this baby and go for plus size wheels. For me personally; I like having both a sofy and a firm ride (firm for city and sofy for highway driving)....so it depends on what u want...

Hehe, maybe I'm over dramatic. I was thinking of modding it, but kind of wanted to see all of my options. Just wasn't sure whether adding more money into this will make it better, when it could be going to something else. Well, I think I'm going to try some new wheels and a drop first, see where that takes me. Does adding a new intake + exhaust = more engine purr?

I just picked up the car today for 5k service and could not tell whether the engine was on or not. Damn, so quiet...well, it was definitely appealing when I took it for that first drive. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

estlin,
I've suffered the same symptoms as you but for different reasons. I'm pleased with the ride and the luxury provided by the Solara, but I'm just never satisfied. It seems the grass is always greener on the other lane of the highway. And, unfortunately, I don't make enough money to buy a new car every six months. I would like more power...say a G35x sedan or an Acura TL. But I simply can't afford a new car or the hit I'd take on trading in the Solara.

But then I'll be walking out to my car after grocery shopping. The sun has just set so there's that soft light falling on the Solara as it sits way out in the lot, and I think, "Damn, my car is pretty cool."

i'm in that stage with my gen 1. just like fotodad, the grass is greener in the other lane. but my parents have always said there is no end when it comes to cars, there will always be better. Just like fotodad, when i look back at my car it looks damn good. i would rather drive my car than a lot of others out there. just wait untill i get money for mods....

Same thing happened to me buddy; especially the fact that I have a 4-cyl A/T. I thought there wasn't much to do with it except for show-mods, and I wasn't too happy about dropping so much money into just-show-car-mods.

So there I was debating between waiting for the 2AZFE SC and a different car. And then, I realized that an SC'ed 4-cyl A/T would probably not even be any better compared to our 1MZFE comrades. So there, boredom really pushed me to get my new car. Choices were RX-8, used RX-7, STi, Mazda 3s, SRT-4, and even the TSX. Price, comfort, fun, looks, uniqueness, and power yielded my decision to the RX-8.

But the Solara is not an easy car to part with, so that's why I'm still keeping it. If you won't feel attached, I guess you could trade it in.

Oh yeah, I was also debating about waiting for the Celica '05. I guess that's not gonna happen either. So I scrapped that idea out.

Good luck on your decision!

I am also the type of person who's never satisfied. If I had gotten a G35, then suddenly I would want an M3, then it would an SLK 500. My first car was a Sentra, so the Solara was a definite step up. When I bought the Solara I was also looking at the RSX. Different creatures, but I bet if I had gotten the RSX, I would have been wondering about the Solara.

I know I am fortunate to have such a great car. Thanks for helping me keep things in perspective guys. Man, the things we do for chunks of metal.

Well I can't say that I am bored yet for I have only been driving my 04 SLE V6 for only a solid day. Doubt boredom will ever set in for this is a step up from my 94 Toyota Celica with viturally no power or options. Damn I love my new car

Sometimes you dont know what youve got till you have lost it or gave it away. Maybe you should drive another car for a week and see how much you miss ur car.

You seem like a perfect candidate for a 1 year lease.
