Top Speed?

Top Speed?

Postby mik00725 » Fri Apr 02, 2004 3:46 am

HI GUYS!!

Yesterday I had the chance to give a good run to my gen2 and took the speedo to 110 mph. It was a nice, and comfy ride. Does any1 knows what is the top speed in this car? Is there any speed limiter?

Those past posts were on the Gen 1/1.5 cars. There have been no posts on what the top speed or governor stopped speed is of the Gen 2- 4cyl or 6cyl. You cannot assume the governor limited speeds are the same.

Did the governor of the car stop you at that speed or did you just not go any faster of your own will?

I've got about 3,800 miles on my car right now and not really sure if that type of speed is going to do anything to the engine. I've only had it up to 100 mph and backed off. Rides really smooth at high speed. I've had the speed up to 135 in my 95 Mazda MX3, which I traded it in for the 04 Solara. I miss her, she had 230,000 miles on it and with the same transmission. Too bad I couldn't say that for the engine. The first engine blew at 150,000 miles. I could never get the second engine to do more than 110, the gas just cuts off.

Check Toyota's data, it's 130mph. Sure, your speedo may have indicated 135, some may show 128, but the actual governor is at 130mph. Might want to understand this a big better before accusing everyone of being wrong. :agrue:

Where do you drive that 130 is too slow? There is no autobahn in the US.

From what I've heard, the state of Montana has no speed limits on there long stretch of hwy's, this could be a myth.

Montana used to have no speed limits but they put them on again. Too bad. I twice drove on the autobahn and got up to 130 constant speed for a couple hours straight. Now that was major fun. And I did it with a rental Mercedes 190 4 cylinder to boot back in the 80's! It had no anti-pollution hardware of course so had more power.
