Strong rumor and everything I've read says next spring. I think it will be an early '05.

Toyota had a survey for it during their Solara test drive events. And yea, Spring 04 is what I've been hearing also... but I will guess late Spring borderline summer as an 05 model

toyota news

Postby waiting4conv » Sun Jan 11, 2004 4:19 pm

I emailed Toyota the other day about the new Convertible, and they said that they are still debating whether to premier it at the Chicago Auto Show. But it should be available early spring as an '05

I put my email address so i could answer specific questions. I work where the car is made and I am in the group that is making it. There are some things I cant talk about yet, but many that I can. I wont get into slamming each other in here, or defending myself, I simply dont have time, and please dont send me any self addressed envelopes. I just wanted to offer information to those who wanted it on this vehicle. It is a great looking car and i think you will all be impressed when you see it.

No problem..........being its the internet, I understand your previous skepticism.....i probably would have responded the same way now that I think about it. I just have to be careful about what I share at this point because I could risk my job. I dont want that, but I do want to promote this vehicle. I have been here 15 years and this has been by far the most interesting project I have been on yet. I also feel strongly that this is the best looking car that has yet to roll out of our plant.

So when is toyota going to debut it!?And does the top fit flush, unlike the 1st generation so you dont have to use that stupid big boot cover???

The previous model wasnt made here and I have never been in one, so I'm not sure about the boot you are talking about, but I can tell you that the fit of the roof has been a primary focus from the very beginning of this project.

I would hope so since that's 95% of the project ;)

When the top was down on the 1st gen models it did not fit flush with the car.So with the top down it stuck up about 6 inches above the trunk. Thus the need for the plastic boot to cover the retractable top.You could leave the boot off if you wanted but made it look cheap in my opinion!Hopefully Toyota was smart enough to fix that!So when is Toyota going to show us!!!!Is it still going to be early Feb at the Chicago auto show!
