Take off engine hood sound dampener??

Take off engine hood sound dampener??

Postby wkbrdr91 » Sun Nov 08, 2009 8:06 am

So ive noticed alot of cars, especially stock "high performance" cars dont have a hood sound dampener (like the VW GTI, Caliber SRT4).

I know when i rev with my hood open it sounds better

would it be best to just take off my sound dampener (on bottom of hood)??

There might be more to it than just dampening. Dunno though. :/

I removed the one that was on my car.
I don't think it can hurt anything.
You can always put it back if you want.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

trust me and leave this on your hood...I took this off thinking the same thing and a year later my hood paint was all jacked up. Same thing happened to my carbon fiber hood. The clear coat starts tp get all jacked up because of the engine heat.

I think the sound dampening material also acts as a fire retardant if your engine happens to catch on fire. It's there for safety reasons.

If you take off the hood dampener, you might as well gut the interior of the car.

My dad also said something about the hood dampener as a fire retardant.

At the drag strip people often see cars without any sound dampeners and they get so loud it is annoying. They sound like weed whackers operating with a microphone attached.

My family's old 1995 Civic LX didn't have an engine dampener.

I am not going to gut my interior either, afterall the car is a "baby Lexus".

Our stock seats are bucket seats, I imagine the racing seats would feel more buckety.
