whistling noise in 06 4cyl Solara

It's been happening for a while now, but it never crossed my mind to post it here. For the past few months my solara has been making an odd whistling noise when the pedal is in a specific position (about the normal spot for accelerating at a normal pace), if i give it less or more gas it goes away.

any ideas?

Could just be the intake.

Mine makes a whistling when I hold the car at around 2000-3000 rpm.

At low rpms, my car makes a noise as well, its very hard for me to describe it.

Can you make a video of the noise you are talking about?

OK this is just a temp video, cause im not sure if its the right sound or not... made this vid when i first installed my SRI

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... d=54783900

if im correct, the sound is about when the rpm hits 5,000

But im not sure if thats just the SRI or the noise im talking about. Ill make one that drags out the sound for a longer time tomorrow!

it all sounds normal to me
that just the air being sucked into the intake and the filter being too small so it makes that woosh sound (i remember someone saying that)

but yea mine does that also
and around 2000-3000 rpm at partial throttle i get a high pitch whistle sound as well

^ that 2000-3000 with partial throttle is the one i was talking about. but i swear it did this before i added the intake. how can i get a bigger filter? i would have thought injen would have supplied a sufficiently sized filter... what did you do to yours to fix that?

well that 2000-3000 rpm whistle doesn't go away
i tried tightening everything as much as possible.....

the filter thing i meant i dont think u can ever get a big enough filter on there
plus i like the whooshing sound when its cold out haha
but search crispmongo filter if u want
i dunno if it will fit with our 4cyl injen though

Any automotive store should have larger filters. You just need to find the right size diameter.

Wouldn't the whoosh sound be the sound of it draining our horsepower though? haha

OK, i made a vid today with my Sony digital camera, but it didnt really capture the whistling noise.

Tomorrow ill try it with my Olympus or Nikon D60

but heres the link, it was doing it most of the time when the rpm was kept between 2000-3000

i can guarantee its normal and u cant get rid of it
i kind of like it haha

btw i dont think a cameras mic can pick it up cuz the pitch may be too high? especially with all the other noise

but it didnt use to do it, and i swear it did it like 2 weeks before the sri install.

I hate the noise, it drives me crazy, i agree the whoosh one is cool, but i hate that whistling noise its making.

BTW would i gain more HP if i got a bigger filter? I think the reason the filter is whooshing is cause it is struggling to suck in enough air through the filter
