Check ENGINE light is BACK!!!

Check ENGINE light is BACK!!!

Postby peejay » Thu May 21, 2009 2:31 pm

Hello Again,

It went on again… and this time I went to AutoZone, the scanner provided with a PO128 code (the guy from AutoZone said: “something to do with coolant thermostat / coolant temp low / thermostat regulated temp or faulty ECT”). Also… AutoZone said that the scanner does not provide the “actual cause”, but gives options of what might caused the light to go on.

Any advise, comment on this topic would be greatly appreciated…

Thanks!

(my earlier message)
My check engine light turned ON while driving on a free way “normal speed about 60 – 70 mph. after arriving to work I reset it by removing the battery terminal (negative), few hours passed, it went off and then my idle starting to act up, …up & down and twice happened my engine died, cuz the idle was soooo low!

Just wanted to check if anyone here experienced this situation… may be able to give me advice or tips on what happened or what’s going on!?!?!

**I recently changed my air filter**

Thank you!

go to autozone or some place and get your car scanned to see what code you come up with. Do you have an aftermarket intake or you just replaced the filter? Does it smell like you're running extremely rich or idle like you have a big cam?

You should by the scanning tool once for all because it will costs you at least 15$ to scan each time. It pays itself by scanning friend and yourself car. I just made that last week and I knew right away (I keep it in my car) it was a P0171 and P0174 ...too lean bank 1 & 2. I was able after to read what are the root cause and fix the problem. Since then nothing appeared.

I bought this one

Sebas, how much do the scanners run for? It doesn't seem like something I'd use much, but if its a good price then I might as well...

It is not that cheap...I guess it might scare you.
However on your side of the border on amazon it is ridiculously low !

Read the reviews ! I suggest you to jump on this great offer ! I paid mine near 192$ like it supposed to be. It is CAD but today 1 CAD = 0.88 USD not that bad. 89 USD is a great price

AFAIK, most parts stores don't charge to scan. At least i've never paid for one...ever.

Oh, and i bought my obd2 scanner for 50 bux. Might not have all these fancy features, but i only bought it to read codes and the live data stream. Shipped from the other side of the world faster than sh*t i bought stateside too.
