How long does a convertible top last before replacement?

How long does a convertible top last before replacement?

I have a 2007 which is kept in a garage but is in nasty Pittsburgh weather in the day. Don't know if the salt spray in the winter causes replacement sooner. What is the average life of a Solara top?

In Florida, it's about 4-5 years because of the harsh Florida sun. I don't think the salt really affects the canvas all that much, if at all. My car's a 2002 model year and I had to replace the top myself February of 2008 which is pretty good. The new top is still very soft, smooth and feels brand new to the touch.

Thanks, never had one before so didn't know how long they last. The convertibles I see with vinyl tops seem to need repair at the back window when they are not that old.

As long as you take care of it and clean it properly it will last a while. I just learned I have to replace the canvas top on my Mercedes, and they ARE NOT cheap.

I have had my 2006 since 4/2005. Top is fine. No rips, tears or wear....that's almost 4 years.

I put the top up and down several times/day during warm weather, which is much of the year in FL. Personally, I think a lot of damage comes form when people don't use the top much. If you don't move the material, I'll bet it advances the deterioration faster.
