loose parts?

loose parts?

Postby cynix » Sat Feb 07, 2009 6:24 pm

Recently I started noticing a strange single "thump" coming from under the hood when I drive a few feet in reverse, and then drive about 5-6 feet forward. I never hear it during regular operations, regardless of how hard I brake before the light or how fast I take off. Only switching to reverse induces it. And it looks like this noise is easier to notice from inside, but it also can be heard from the outside. The glovebox is empty, I've already checked that.
Looks like some part became loose, but I have no idea what could it be, and visual inspection didn't give me a clue.
Maybe the collective mind has any ideas? Any help will be appreciated!

I never switch forward/reverse when my car is moving, I always come to a full stop. And as for strut brace - yes, it does have one.
Thanks!

ok then. Well awhile back i took my hood of to remove some dents with a dent puller and I ended up having to run to autozone with no hood, and as I was backing out i noticed that when i gave the car a little more gas then usual the motor would flex ALOT. the intake plenum was very close to hitting the bottom of the strut brace. quite possibly your engine damper/shock absorber or a motor mount may be worn out, allowing the engine to flex more than usual... Lucky shortly after noticing this my friend gave me a torque rod (yay!)
