Transmission Shift Points When Cold

Transmission Shift Points When Cold

Postby linmk2 » Fri Jan 16, 2009 7:22 pm

Perhaps my car has always done this, but only in the last few days have I noticed it. When still cold, and driving 30 MPH, I've had noted that the transmission only shifts to 3rd gear. The transmission will not upshift, even manually. Once the car is up to normal operating temp., the car shifts fine. Does any of your Solaras behave this way?

Its typical for any car to do such. The idea is that OD is not engaged and the shifting points are higher so that the car is warmed up faster (hence cold start's = higher rev's). Its typical. Why are you trying to manually shift it to 4th when the car's not warmed up completely yet?

I regards to the question of why attempt to shift to 4th manually. It is not something I do normally. I was only trying to see if the car would upshift manually. I had never noticed my Solara, or frankly any car I've owned in the last 15 years acting this way. The good news, it appears to be normal for the Solara, hence, I don't have a problem. Thanks to all for the information.
