Well its been only two weeks since ive had my 04 solara and yesterday I crashed it. I was forced off the road by a flippin idiot that was driving right at me and the jerk took off too and I was left in the ditch. Talk about a great new years. I need a new front bumper, and radiator. I decided to drive it home because i didn't know the radiator was damaged, and being a dumbass I didn't pay attention to my gauges. At the toll booth my car just died and I was forced to tow it home. I was wondering if the solara has a sensor which shuts the car off before overheating the engine and causing damage to the engine. After the car cooled off it started again no problem and it sounded like it was running alright. It didn't overheat to the point of steam coming out the engine but it did smell a little funky when I popped the hood. My question is do you think the engine was severely damaged and how do you think this will affect the overall performance of the vehicle. I'm pretty sure it shut off because it went into protection mode. The body work inst all that bad im just worried about the engine itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

you might not have seized the engine, but i wouldnt be surprised if you burned a gasket or two....or if you're car starts burning oil from now on. Hopefully you'll be ok.

You Should've been paying attention to your guages.

Dam! What a way to start the year off. I feel your pain. I wrecked about 8mths ago. Hydroplaned on I-35, spun around infront of a big rig and then head on into a guard rail. Ripped up the whole front end of her. Lucky for me my airbags didnt go off and insurance paid me $2K. I'm finally getting the last bit of body work done this weekend.
Good luck to ya bro! Post up some pics of the damage if you can.
Did you have full coverage???

ya i got full coverage but im not gonna file a claim cause i don't want my insurance to go up a bunch. I have a good mechanic that will take care of me for a good price. The body work aint what im worried bout i just hope the engines alright. It should be ok though considering the fact that some cars get fixed with way worst problems. The engine didnt overheat to the point of smoke but I think the computer shut it off for protection.

Plus i had a couple drinks in me and its just not worth getting the police involved even if you think your under the limit. That and the new law in Illinois for dui's is crazy. Their installing breathalyzers in vehicles that only let the car start if you are sober for people with dui's. Crazy stuff they are supposed to lower the limit to .04 too!!!

I can understand that. I just switched insurance companys when I had my wreck and I didnt have to involve the police either.
Stay safe out there!!!

Sorry about your misfortune. More about the new DUI law in Illinois. You only have to have ONE DUI conviction and they make YOU pay for the Breathalyzer and the install if I'm correct.
This law has been big time conversation here in Northwest Indiana.

^^ welcome to how it's been done in texas for years.

we've had breathalyzer locks on cars for a couple years, and it's always going to be at the civilian's expense.
