The fuel saving power of the 2AZ-FE Solara RAWR

Today I filled it up and calculated the average mpg of my lara and got back an amazing result: 39.32 mpg, a new record on my gaslog.

Most of the 193.8 miles travelled were highway miles and little A/C was used. I never went above 70mph on this tank, mostly staying around 60-65mph. Windows were closed during highway traveling.

87 octane gas was used.

The engine oil was changed out yesterday.

The tires were inflated to 35PSI and the best part is that no extreme hypermiling tricks were used or fuel saving mods, just normal driving.

I think the car is definitely capable of averaging 40mpg per tank but thats about the limit for normal driving style.

That milage is what the Yaris and Corolla usually gets, not bad for a 3000+ pound car eh?

I traveled 193.8 miles and used only 4.928 gallons of gas in mostly highway conditions. I remember Philosophict saying that he once got 41mpg on his Prelude.

ive gotten i think it was 35mpg
doing 80 all highway....well 99.9% highway
this included going through some mountains (grapevine for u cali people)
im sure if i did 65 or so id have gotten much higher mpg

I myself have gotten close to 580 miles in one tankful with pretty aggressive highway mix (80/20), uphill driving and some traffic. I'm pretty sure cold weather will help improve my mileage during the next few months and little or no A/C, but the 2AZ-FE Solara is definitely a joyful ride, even if only at getting good mileage and not making fast cars rear view mirror material.

The number of gallons used for this fillup can be found on the receipt and the miles travelled on the car were found on the odometer.

I did a division: miles travelled divided by the number of gallons = my mpg.

The numbers on the odometer and all other data on the other gauge were reset before I started the car after filling up.

What helps is the winter cold air, but before they change the gasoline to the winter mix. If you use summer gasoline in the winter, your gas mileage will go up.

Install a vacuum gauge. Try and keep it to vacuum, and watch your mileage go up.

If you don't have an "instant mileage" display to use as a guide (love it in my '06), you can just try to keep the engine vacuum at a high level at all times. This is not the same as hardly opening the throttle because it's more accurate, and tells you how much throttle to use for mild acceleration, how much to back off when you top a hill etc.

For the hills, I usually go faster before going up and just letting the car coast when going down, it helps in increasing the mpg quite a bit for me.

Jeje! You know...the girls over here complain a lot about "cold" weather down here this time of year. I'm pretty sure some of you wouldn't mind "warming" things up around here.

As for my 1020, I have been working my now completely-chair-slanted-@ss on some materials management (MM) project as well as taking some MM and Logistics courses in SAP...and MAN...I tell you, working 11h/taking classes 5h/traveling 3h/and sexy exercising 1h for 4 1/2 whole weeks and pretty and not recommended, but I pulled thru.

As of this Sunday, I'll be back in the unemployment lines until January. If I thought things were bad the first time I was let go, they are having a 2 week shutdown (this NEVER happened before) and already sent all the temps home. Product demand for 2-3 whole months got moved to 2009.

But then again, I will be able to join the solaraguy ranks once more.
