Maintence light flashes a couple times right after I start the car and then goes away.

Does this mean anything significant?

RTFM lol. That means you're approaching the "oil change" warning. The manual will tell you how to reset it when you change the oil and what the set points are. Something like 4000 miles for doing what you have, 5000 miles when it's on all the time.

If you don't have an owners man, search around here. It's been discussed.

make sure the key is in the ignition and the ignition is off. press and hold your odometer button down then turn your ignition to the on position then you will see your odo meter reset itself then once its done then release the button. then your light will be reset.

what would it mean if the maintence light is solidly on?
I am unsure if it is a serious problem or just the oil change reminder...

As others have mentioned it's just an oil change reminder. The light blinks several times when you start the engine 4500 miles after a reset. At 5000 miles the light will stay on solid pretty much demanding you do the oil change. You'll find that information in your owners manual.

What you won't find in the manual is how to reset the light. Turn on the ignition (don't start the engine) and set your odometer to show 'total miles'. Turn the key off. Now hold the odometer button in while you turn the key on. Hold the button and watch the display. The numbers will change to dashes. When you have all ------ you can release the button and turn off the key. The system is reset for another 4500 miles.

Assuming you missed another important item in your manual the next warning light likely to come on will be for low tire pressure. You'll want to read (carefully) the reset procedure so the light doesn't keep coming back on even after you've adjusted pressures.

Cheers
