I know this is going to sound stupid, but when did gen 2.5 started coming out? I just bought an 06 sle v6 w/o navi and i want to put HID lights on. I've been doing some searching and there are problems with the setups on Gen 2... :o

I know that lights for 2nd gen are not 100% setup for HID, since HID bulbs burn and project light bit differently then regular lights. you can lose some light if you update to HID in 2nd gen, plus you will blind anybody/everybody on the road.

I have a 03 Maxima with HID (updated bulbs to 6000k) and the color of the light that they put out (pure white) would look really good on my 06 (its the pearl color)

You have to buy a HID kit, including ballast, HID bulbs. HID use samller amount of watts to run. There is a guy on here selling some kit.

I`m fully aware of the whole kit. Maxima gets HIDs stock...so its just the matter of changing the bulbs

With solara....everything has to change..new bulbs ballast etc....HID run at 35 watts....regular headlights 55w...but the voltage is is much higher for HIDs...

Now...when did gen 2 change to gen 2.5? I know that if you bought gen 2.5 SE you had an option for HIDs...so the projectors had to be changed on gen 2.5 to accommodate that....

Even if the voltage is much higher, current should be lower by magnitudes. Overall consumption being lower than stock, the stock system is perfectly capable of running HIDs.

I think 2.5 started with 2007 MY. Please note that the stock HID have a leveling mechanism...don't think anybody has attempted to run them and make the mechanism work.

I think a quick and dirty answer is..when the front bumper cover changed along with the LED taillights...
Alpine + Dynaudio = Sonic bliss.

Are you looking to put Gen 2.5 lights in and get the mechanism to work or just install an HID kit?

Not sure I understand what the big deal is? Several people have done this successfully and it only takes a few minutes.

I'm not sure I understood him either...
Just putting in HID kits, yes, a lot of people have done so successfully. Not sure if he wanted the stock system instead of an aftermarket kit, so I warned him on the leveling mechanism just in case. If he is worried on the stock non-HID projectors causing a glare when using HID bulbs, he should perform a search for more information.

It's only the glare that i`m worried about.

Now if i could get my hands on for new 2.5gen headlight assembly with the mechanism for not too much $$$ i will. I don't think that getting the mechanism to work is too hard...

At around $225 per lamp assembly, your best bet might be a junker. Other than that, I think there aren't that many options. Still, have you verified if there are and what are the differences between the 2007 non-HID and 2007 HID headlamps?
