Outside temp gauge stuck at 80 degrees!

Hi all, any idea how I should go about troubleshooting my outside temp gauge which has been stuck reading 80 degrees for the last three days?

Where is the sensor located?

Just think how warm it will be in winter!

Odd issue for a gen 2.5, but my temp gauge doesn't ever move a lot from day to day, it's always fairly the same temp here and I doubt it's very accurate.

Anyway, are you checking it during the day and night and it says 80? I guess it could be a bad temp gauge, but I'm sorry, I don't know where it is.

it might be the default temp. try just unplugging the battery for 10~30 mins. that might reset it.

That ain't right. I leave my garage and watch it go from garage temp to outside temp by 1-3 degree jumps. It's always balanced out withing a block or so.

I'd have to go with ^^^ on the ECU reset as the first try. Let us know how it goes and I'll dig in the EWD to see where the sensor runs if it's still busted.

Yeah - I see a 10-15º drop going to the beach every morning... something ain't right! Either a reboot of the ECU or finding a loose connector or ???

Well, interesting news! Today, for the first time in four days, it finally moved from 80 degrees! It read 89, and a bank I was passing had an electronic sign reading 91. I'll take 2 degrees off, I guess.

I know I'm not crazy, and there's no way that the temperature was consistently 80 degrees three days in a row, both day and night... but who knows?

Now, if I could just get my rear defroster to work... :P

Have you taken your car to a car wash for an interior clean? If so, they could have broken the connections on the defroster, which wold make it not work.

I actually just bought the car. It's one-year used, with 14,000 miles, and I don't know how long it's not been working. I've checked the fuse for the rear defroster (not broken), the linked side mirror heaters (working), and the rear defroster light button lights up.

I'm guessing it IS a bad connection somewhere in the back. I tried checking the back window with the top up, but I wouldn't know what a disconnected wire would look like. NONE of the heater strips are working...

None of mine work either, and haven't for a long time. I was convinced earlier that it was due to the top rubbing on the connections when going up or down, but think it could also be due to the people at the car wash not taking care when cleaning the rear window. It's not easy to get into the back seat and clean the window, and they are not known to be the most careful people.

Fortunately for me, I live in FL and rarely ever need it, so I haven't been to concerned.
