Trunk randomly opening?

Trunk randomly opening?

Postby [SMAN] » Mon May 05, 2008 3:10 pm

Ok, this is like the 5th time in less than a year that i've been driving and I'll notice that hte trunk is open about 3 inches. As it stands, i have the keylock activated so the only way to open it is either from inside the trunk or via the key fob. It's definatly not open when i get in the car (and it can't be opened from the keyfob once the engine is running) but i'll get like 500 feet and see it's open, allmost as if turning the engine on is causing it to open. Anyone else had the problem? I wish i could make it more noticable, but it seems as though there is no way to increase the tension on the trunk so that if it opens, it would open all the way and make it more noticeable. So i'm not sure what my options are.

*EDIT* It turns out (according to page ED-45 of the FSM) that our trunk actualy does have adjustable torque options, so i'm definatly goign to adjust that cause it will help me catch it, but still does anyone else have this issue?

 , trunk monkey. I like that one Donnie! I agree with Garrrrrrrry, we have to point damn near everywhere but directly at the trunk to get it to open. It's like the receiver is in the front license bumper or something.

Yeah i can normaly get it to open with the key fob, but the thing is it's just randomly opening, like something else is triggering the release, which is kinda of odd.

Has this happened in various locations or only when you're leaving one place like home?

I'm just wondering if someone else using a spare key fob is messing with your head.

Cheers

various locations. Allthough 3 times have been when i've been leaving my parking garage. once leaving another parking garage across town, and the last time was leaving a CVS. However al these locations are within 2 - 3 miles of each other. They seem to happen a few months apart, also regardless of the conditions outside.

maybe the trunk latch is loose or damaged?
so maybe speed bumps or when u drive down a driveway may have it release?

I was thinking that, but it doesn't seem right, cause we have some of the worst pot holes and stuff and that doesn't seem to trigger it. I guess i'm the only one with this issue.

i dont think its another key fob
wouldn't you hear a "beeeeeeeeeeeep" and then it would pop open?

try unlocking it from the inside? like where u have the gas cap and trunk lock? you said it was locked try to leave it unlocked and see if that fixes it?

I would, but that's how they broke into my last car, smashed the window and poped the trunk and made off with my subs...

Either your cable leading to the trunk latch is being infringed upon or you're accidently pressing the FOB button. (PS. The 1-2 second hold for trunk is on purpose to prevent accidental trunk opening.)

Where's the actuator for the auto trunk release? If it doesn't use the cable from the driver's seat, then you can disconnect that to see if it stops.

I'll trace through the wiring diagrams to see if i can't figure it out, when i had the car apart, i didn't see an actuator in the lever system up front, so my guess is it's in the trunk itself. First thing first is going to be for me to stiffen up the torsion bars so that it flys open and makes things more noticeable.

I thought on the Gen 2s that I read something about the trunk not being able to be opened with ANY key fob when the key is in the ignition or when the car is in motion.
