30K mi. servicing. how much of it is B.S.

My 05 V6 is due for 30 K servicing. The dealer wants $550 for it. My previous cars, I always did my own servicing. I don't have the time anymore.

Whats to cleaning the fuel injectors. Do they just stick a can of cleaner in the gas tank? Does changing the fluid in the differential need to be done?

I will get the transmission serviced, it's cheap insurance for the future. Air and cabin filters i can do.

Thanks for any info.

I think $550 is way too expensive.
If me, I will just pay for transmission fluid service from the dealership.
And do the rest myself.

For injector cleaning, I don't remember seeing that os recommended by Toyota for 30K miles service. Putting injector cleaner in the tank killed my catalytic converter in my previous car. So I don't di injector cleaner anymore unless I really have to.

I just changed my cabin air filter and it took me less than 5 minute and $12 for the filter from Pepboys. Same thing with the intake air filter.

My 30K service was only like $300 something, and I had them do all the crap that was included.

i remember i paid for that price around 30k too,
but then, that included front brake replacement.
fuel injection service is pricy, usually 100 bucks for it,
but then, trust me, u will love it once u do it
it will bring ur car's power back!!
and yeah, they just stick some cleaner in the gas tank, that's all.
if you konw where to buy the cleaner,
i guess u dont' have to do it at dealer

When I needed the 30K done, the service writer told me that it's basically a 5K service plus the changing of two filters (air and cabin)... since I replaced those two already, they just went ahead with a 5K service for around eighty bucks (expensive? yeah, a bit, but whatever)

PS there's a pamphlet/pdf floating around that shows what should be included in each of the 5K, 15K, 30K, etc., services... probably a link around here somewhere if the search worked...

Good luck getting them to prove they've changed the spark plugs on a V6! And why at 30K? (Not to mention they charge "twice" for them - though I'm sure one's parts/one's labor)

Dealers make the bulk of their money in service - not necessarily sales - so letting them bend you over for unnecessary charges is like giving them access to your bank account. ;)
