couple basic questions about the car and some how-to ?'s.

couple basic questions about the car and some how-to ?'s.

Postby philosophicaljt » Mon Jul 16, 2007 7:49 am

1.) Who makes the Toyota Service Repair Manual (publisher, author, etc...)

2.) Where can I get it?

3.) Is it possible to change the coupe's window switch operation, to the convertible's? I would love to be able to just hit one button, and both windows go down, automatically. (I'm not lazy, i just love to tinker :))

4.) Is there a write-up for re-wiring the fog's to come on with the corner lights or DRL's, or standalone?

5.) If so, where?

6.) How can I change the luminocity of the DRL's? I know they normally run at 50%, but I would much rather it be closer to 35%.

7.) Do we have a sealed-frame car? I mean, does our frame need to be lubed or oiled?

8.) Anything that I should be doing to keep the frame/suspension in perfect shape?

I think thats all for now. I hope I'm not a bother with all these questions. My searching wasn't able to answer these questions, so please go easy on me

1.) Not exactly sure.

2.) Usually through your dealership, but there's a few places online too.

3.) There's been a tutorial that's been linked from another website, but I can't find it as of the moment.

4.) Yeah there is a DIY for independent foglight wiring.

5.) Run a search next time, but I'll let it slide this time and lead you to: http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=9234 NOTE: May not work on your car since this was intended for a Gen2. If any Gen2+ figured it out, post accordingly.

6.) Nobody has discussed this before... For most of us it's all or nothing (as in eliminating the DRL).

7.) As far as I know (but I could be wrong), it's sealed.

8.) Just don't get in an accident or drive like a bat out of hell; Toyota stuff is pretty reliable, so under normal circumstances your car should be fine.

Those are all good questions and I think Ed covered most of them above.

Not sure who actually published the official repair manual, but it's available only through the dealer AFAIK. You might be able to find it online for sale as a downloadable PDF, but that's going to take some searching... unless someone else pops up here and provides a link. ;)

Also, other than the front/rear sway bars bushings, most all of the frame/subframe/suspension is sealed so no grease fittings to lube. I always do a visual and spray the rubber stuff with a silicone spray and wipe it down every few months - but I also don't live in a wet weather region so my undercarriage stays relatively clean. ;)

Couple more questions:

9.) Were there any models that came with steering wheel controls, that have more buttons on the right side? Mine only as a display button, and the rest are dummies. I hate that, I want them to do something, like maybe tune the radio?

10.) Why does the sunroof/moonroof slide back with one touch, but then when you press/hold it again, it slides back further? Is there a way to make it slide back all the way with the first touch of the button? If so, is there a reason I shouldn't do this?

9.) There is on Gen2+, but it's odd that you don't since you have a Gen2 SLE.

10.) It's usually a thing to prevent wind buffeting, but I'm not sure if it is able to be overridden.

Question for YOU:
Why is there a picture of the driver's side panel?

I wanted to know also if I could take this piece from the convertible, and put it on my car (the one in the picture is from the coupe). I am interested in making a button for rolling down all the windows at once (factory button), and also a button for turning the interior LED's on and off (I was going to use a shaved security button, if possible).

Hard to say; anything is possible if you dedicate yourself to it, but nobody has ever tried the all-windows switch since the coupe only has 2 movable windows and some with a sunroof (and even then the sunroof and driver's side window is auto down), and if you mean turning interior LEDs on/off as in the backlighting of the gauges/radio/AC (don't quite get your question but I assume this is what you mean), just turn the dimmer to the end.

No, I will have interior LED's in the cupholders and mounted in the top of the compartment under the heater controls. Most importantly to me would be the LED's inside the Armrest compartment. At night, I can't see anything in there. Its for more light/function at night time. I don't go crazy with tacky lights everywhere like some idiot. But maybe the cupholder LED's are on that border.......lol.

I would just appreciate more light in the compartment and the armrest. The cupholders would be purely for looks, and I may not do it, i will decide that last.

That button on the conv. goes to the Convertible Roof Control Relay. You don't have one of them. You could get the wiring diagram, replace the facia to get the new button and hook it up to ground both up/down wires for your windows. Most swtiched in the car either connect the control to a ground or to another control. Either type of switch could be bypassed in parallel.

Also check ebay often for owners man and service mans. (EWD) Much cheaper that way.

Lastly, the dummy wheel controls on the right are for the Nav unit. Making them dow something would mean replacing that section of the wheel for starters. Probably cost probimitive since you could just go a/m head unit with a remote.

Dummies in 04-06. IIRC, the 07's actually had a use for them... bluetooth, maybe?

I need to tap into a power wire for some LED's I am installing.

What 12 source can I tap into near the passenger side footwell? Its only 3 LED's, so its not much power.
