Trunk ?

Postby Betty06 » Tue Jun 05, 2007 4:17 pm

ok i have to ask you all if any of you have any problems closing your trunk. since i got my solara the trunk just never wants to close. i literaly have to slam it shut everytime in order for it to stay closed. i brought it in and they said they fixed it but its really not any better so im just wondering if this is a general problem or if its just me. any responses would be really helpful

Mine (04) closes very easily. Just a light 'thunk' or even a gentle push when the trunk is against the gasket latches it.

Cheers

I've always had the same problem since day 1. I have to shut it close, compared to other cars I've owned. For some reason it cannot close under its own weight when I try closing it.

I never had any problems... Take it back and have them try it again...

I have had not issues. I just push it down, and it closes.

Maybe you need a new latch.

i wonder if it has anything to do with the weight of the spoiler...

i dont have a spoiler and i have to kinda slam it in order to close.

Unless the spoiler has a heavy metal core, it ain't gonna make a difference. too small on Gen2, and HAS to be pretty nominal in weight.

If you'd rather adjust the latch yourself rather than trusting that nothing will happen to your car while in the shop it's super simple.

I just checked the service manual. You just remove the padding(trim) from the back of the trunk then there are two bolts that hold the latch. Loosen them slightly and move the latch up or down (probably up a bit in your case). Tighten the bolts and try the lid. If it still won't catch move the latch up a little more.

One caveat. The latch adjustment also determines the height of the lid in relation to the other body panels around it when the trunk is closed. If your trunk lid is already dead even with the rest of the fender panels then adjusting the latch isn't going to help. Something else is going on if you're really having to slam the lid.

Cheers

well when it was in the shop they said that it wasnt the latch it was actually the piece of metal that the latch attaches too. they said that piece was bent, so i cant imagine they fixed it in an afternoon...i would think that would require possibly removing the rear bumper and fixing it from there considering there is no acess to fix i with the buper still on. thnx for the help guys

You'd be surprised how much that spoiler weighs - especially the 07 sport spoiler! ;)

Anyway - mine closes fine unless I have something blocking the edge - like the mesh or something. Just a little swing down with a finger and it closes perfectly every time.
