Leaky battery?

Leaky battery?

Postby lambition » Sun Mar 18, 2007 2:11 pm

Is it normal for the battery to leak a little?

My Solara's battery (one that came with the car) leaks through the vent holes on top of the battery.
Its not a severe leak, but I can see white marks on top of the battery left by dried acid.

I thought this is normal, but after a while it began corodding the battery bratket and battery terminal.
I didn't have this problem with any other cars before.

Did anyone have this problem?

If this is not normal is it covered by warranty as well? (its 2004 model, with 26729 miles on it)

There shouldn't be any leaking from the battery. You should wash down the entire area with a mixture of baking soda and water to neutralize the battery acid. Then take a small paper cup with baking soda and water and put the battery cables in to soak for awhile and then brush them off with an old tooth brush and wash everything off really good. When you put your cables back on spray the connection with a battery cable protector.

If you get a new battery you should also wash it down with the mixture because there is always battery acid spilled when they are filled. I have never found one new battery that didn't foam up when washed. Don't forget to wash out the battery holder also.

Since its been some time since I bought the car, I guess I'll just try cleaning them.

And maybe replace battery sometime soon.
