Rotating tires

Postby kpxboi0619 » Thu Feb 08, 2007 12:59 pm

Is there certain pattern that you have to rotate the tires?
Because I had to change my two front tires, and i just switched with the two rear ones but then the tire monitor comes on.
So i reset it and after 1 min it comes on again.
@ the dealer they said it cannot be rotated?

rotation

1st question: have you checked your tire pressure?

Assuming you have directional tread on your tires: swapping the fronts for the rears is fine.

The pressure warning on gen2 uses the ABS sensor to determine if a tire is rotating faster than the others (has a smaller diameter b/c it is flat) and this should not cause a problem.

Tires can't be rotated? whatta load of crap. BIG reason why I do most all maintenance myself: mechanics who lie to customers.

I seem to be having a ton of trouble with my TPS. It turns on at least once every trip I may make, but then seems to go off periodically. I was wondering if it just may be faulty or if anyone else may be having the same problem. Moreover, anyone know how to fix it? It's getting really frustrating.

The TPMS in my car was going nuts this summer. I took it into the dealership to have them look at it. They told me it was not initialized properly, so it was giving false readings. They re-initialized it and since then, I have not seen it turn on yet- even with the below zero temperatures. No, I do not know how they re-initialized it.

You reinitialize it by holding the TPMS button (located above the hood release) and wait for the TPMS light on the instrument panel to blink 3 times.

I have had problems with mine ever since switching to the 19s... strange how I had no problems with it when the 20s were on... LAME! LOL

Dude, you don't have to do all that. You rotate your tires everytime you drive.

^^ but what if you drive a distance equal to an integer multiple of the circumfrence of the tire?

Well, observering the time honored belief that e=mc squared, if you divide the square root of pie and multiply this by the radius of the inflated tire, you can see that the tires do rotate themselves in accordance to the laws of nature... lol. Rotate your tires often; 9,000 is a good interval; do it every 6,000 if you have soft rubber or are hard on tire wear. The only cars that a manufacturer should tell you not to do this on are ones that come with different sized rims/tires on the opposite ends of the car! Front to back on the same side is the norm for radials, but in cases where one side is wearing differently than the other, you can send the tires to opposite corners of the car on every other rotation (unless you have directionals, as Sentinel said).

my stock tires were Toyo tires from the dealer
and they said it wasn't rotatable.
So I got new tires today, 2 on the front
I got the Hankook Ventus tires for $170 for two.
I like the new tire better than the TOYO

how can tires not be rotateable?
when u rotate ur really only supposed to swap the front two with the back two on the same side, directional or not

On front wheel drive cars, rotate the tires in a forward cross pattern (fig. A) or the alternative X pattern (fig. B)

* On rear wheel or four wheel drive vehicles, rotate the tires in a rearward cross pattern (fig. C) or the alternative X pattern (fig. B)

* If you car has directional wheels or tires, rotate them as shown in fig D.

* If you car has non-directional tires that are a different size from front to rear, rotate them as shown in fig. E. (according to http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... imgrefurl=
http://www.gandjtire.com/rotation.htm&h ... r9M:&tbnh=
108&tbnw=119&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drotating%2Btires%26start%3D60%26ndsp%3D20%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN)

I think most of us go with the "D" pattern; I've heard many times that radial belts last longer without deflection when the rotating direction is not changed.
