2003-2004-2005 ("Real life" calendar year)

2007-2008 (Gen 2.5 model year)
2006-2007 ("Real life" calendar year)

2007 Solara came out during May 2006 or so...I would think that 2008 Solara will come out May 2007

It will come unchanged from the 2007 Solara...last year of Gen 2.5

Toyota is unlikely to continue competing in the midsize coupe segment, a new report by Ward's Auto suggests. Jim Lentz, Toyota USA's executive vice president said R&D will be spent in "better places" than on vehicles the Camry Solara coupe.



"Our sense is that the midsize coupe segment continues to be a deteriorating segment," Lentz said. He said such vehicles are most popular among female Baby Boomers, and such individuals are transitioning to crossovers.



Toyota's position is starkly different from Honda's, when it comes to midsize coupes. Earlier this month, Honda revealed the 2008 Accord Coupe Concept to much fanfare. Might the popularity of these cars start to trend upwards again? "Honda must have some insight that they feel that is going to take place," Lentz said. "Our research doesn’t really show that."

There won't be a 3rd gen for the guy who said that. And Toyota won't lose out too much in that segment of cars if they can focus more on their other cars and getting their F-line launched with lexus to compete with big dawgs 'M' and 'AMG'.

The model will be the same as 2007 Solara (Gen 2.5)
SIMPLE ENOUGH ?


Toyota needs to have some sportier models now that the Celica, Supra and maybe Solara are missing. More affordable than a Lexus vehicule...less performance for sure but at least more representing.

I agree with ya- Toyota seems to not know how much of the coupe market they are going to miss out on. I guarantee with the Altima coupe coming out that there is going to be new focus back on that market, and potential buyers of the Altima coupe may check out the Toyota coupe that will be non-existent. Not everybody is going to be willing to pony up $50K for a Lexus coupe. It would be interesting to see if Toyota could produce a midsize coupe that could compete against the Altima coupe- something that looks sporty, that is resonably priced and has decent performance.

Maybe though, it is good that they are focusing on their other cars, because the quality of my Solara is HORRIBLE. The day the car runs out of warranty, I am going to stop driving it until I can trade it in without losing money.

We'll see what happens down the road- there's no telling.

we can tell that toyota have become a family car company. they removed anything that resemble sportiness, eg; celica, mr2 and supra. they have declared to stop competing in the sport coupe market.

so the 08 solara is the same as the 07 solara. might as well buy an 07 solara if you want one. they're not going to improve anything. it's just a carry over.

i am glad they're getting rid of the solara, i don't think it's a very visually attractive car compare to nissan altima coupe and the concept accord coupe. and, this is good thing for current solara owners because they're be less solara on the street. rarity always increase car value.

if you want a sport coupe from toyota, buy a scion tc.

^^nothing really increases a car's value unless it's a classic, or you do some MAJOR modifications...and then it's only worth more to someone who likes cars like that. No matter what car you buy, it's going to decrease in value every year you own it and every mile you put on it. None of the mods on the Solaras here are worth much to anyone but the owner, unless they are parted out, it doesn't increase the value.

As a matter of fact, if a car company stops making a certain model, hit can hurt the value as well. I'm glad I leased...I don't have to worry about that.

Hi. New guy here. Work at the plant on the Camry-Solara lines. That is true to a certain point. If it is cared for it will eventually stabilize in value and if it is a less common body style, it will begin to increase. 4 door sedans are pumped out like crazy, because they are what most people want. 2 doors are less common and considered more desirable as collector cars as they age. The best parallel I can offer from my hobby is the value of a Lark sedan vs. a Lark Daytona Hardtop. In equal condition and equipment the hardtop is double in value. I am talking about 20 to 40 year old car values here. A stripped down 30 year old Solara will be worth a lot more than a loaded Camry of the same year, due to rarity and sportyness. The Solara convertible is a genuine "Future Collectible" in anyone's book. The more it is loaded, the more it will be worth. It will never achieve the status of a Lexus SC, but it will be worth more than a Lexus 4 door. We build about 3000 Camrys a day. Rarity, quality (the convertible is built like a TANK!) and highly optioned will keep the convertible value way up. Solara sedans will be right behind. We only build 68 convertibles a day right now. Will ramp up to about 90 for a few summer months, then back down. Oblivion in September 2008. Don't look for any 2008 changes. Solara is a dead issue. Our plant management tried to keep the Convertible line going past the Sedan death date, but were shot down. The Solara platform is from the old Camry, and that may be the main reason. That's a lot of dies and production equipment to keep around for 68 cars a day. Unless you guys start buying tons of Solaras in the next 6 months for some reason, the deed is done. Probably too late anyway. Just joined forum, should be fun!
