Gen 2's and Theft

Postby nysolarasle » Tue Dec 12, 2006 2:24 am

Anyone else having a problem with their Gen 2's and theft?

2 weeks ago, my neighbor found his 2007 on 4 milk crates and the stock rims gone. I just went through the same thing but luckily, one of my other neighbors saw it and called the cops. They caught one, cops said there was one more that ran off. When they caught him, 3 rims had one lug nut in them and the 4th rim was totally off laying on the curb.

Since when were our stock rims such a hot commodity for thieves? The cop told me a lot of Solara stock rims have been taken recently.

Damn they're still leaving rides on milk crates? Around here they just take the whole car. A couple months ago, this guy in a tow truck tried to take my 'Lara at like 5 in the morning. Luckily my neighbor saw him and ran over, the tow truck pulled off....close call.

I took some pics, I'll get them up as soon as possible.

My neighbor wasn't so lucky. One of the crates buckled, leaving the front rotor and bumper on the street. It trashed the front side of the bumper pretty bad.

Stock 17's I'm assuming? Wheel locks didn't deter them?

Good thing I'm not rockin' the stockies... LOL

Seriously though, that really sucks...
Did you have wheel locks on them?

::Edit::

Did you have aftermarket wheel locks on them?

OEM wheel locks don't deter theives. I have gorilla's locks. Granted a person who wants to steal will find a way..gorilla locks just make it a tad bit difficult to steal rims IMO.

Geez - I never had wheel locks on mine, but my GF did on her Camry - so when I installed my stockies on her Camry I used her locks . Who'd have thought??

I know on my Gen 2 if you tried to jack up the car the alarm will go off immediately! Anything metal tapping the chassis (like a wrench to the wheel) will also set it off. I know from experience when I thought I had disarmed the alarm but it reset itself since I didn't open/close a door before working on it. ;)

I'm not too worried where I live - pretty nice area with a lot more tempting rides to mess with than my silly Solara! But I do go up to LA and Hollyweird alot, so I might wanna get some locks for my ride as well - just in case. ;)

Unfortunately, no wheel locks, but yeah, stock 17's. I ordered the locks though, they'll be coming in tomorrow. In the mean time, I left my car at the local shop. They have a 24 hour attendant there.

What the real funny thing is, the dude they caught, lives about 4 blocks away from the dealer I bought it from here in Queens. The cop told me it's become a trend with the Solara's and stock rims.

Here are some pics...kinda sucks, being my first pic posting :-?

The little silver jack actually belonged to the thieves and of course the cheap a$$ milk cartons...

Image

Funny how they left the complete set of lug nuts.

That's fxcked up... But a good cheap-bastard idea on my next oil change instead of driving up the sidewalk ramp since I have 2 milk crates in the garage! [/sarcasm]

All jokes asides, I hope whoever did this to your car and the neighbor's gets castrated and forced to eat EACH OTHER'S uhh... Remnants because that is just plain fxcked up, and I only said what I said since I just performed my first DIY oil change earlier today... As mentioned, using the ramp of the sidewalk .

Damn...

I live in Queens too, but I keep my baby locked up at night in a garage.

Then again, I have a gen 1, so it shouldnt be a big deal, except that I have IS300 rims on it.. lol

And you live in Astoria.... man that's the quiet side of Queens... lol

Everytime I drive through there its mad quiet, I swear I can hear crickets.... lmao

I'm in Jackson Heights/ Corona. <- yup loud, and audacious, good thing cops are walking this beat constantly.

Hey, sorry about your loss... well, atleast you got yours, your neighbor wasn't that lucky.

That's completely odd. I was keyed last week, but no theft so far.

The stock rims aren'y ugly, but they aren't all that...why would they want them?? I'm gonna go paint mine purple
