2004 Solara Throttle Lag

Postby crazygreek » Wed Oct 11, 2006 8:39 am

In reference to the Throttle Lag post. I just called Toyota for the second time. Called back in 2004 concerning this issue. They said that the more people that call in regards to the problem then the more likely they will attempt to do something about it. So please give them a call have millage and vin number ready and when the problem started.

1-800-991-4331. Let me know what happens. I am going to push that this issue be resolved due to safety concerns.

Thanks.

i am not quite sure what you guys mean by throttle lag. is it when i am on the freeway and i have to accelerate fast to pass someone but the car takes about a second or two to response? i have driven other v4 automatic, i thought this is a typical response time? you can't expect it to feel like a manual.

no more like when your coming up to a red light, your almost stopped and the light turn green. You gas it and there is lag from the time you gas it to the time the car responds.

By the way, my Solara is a SLE Artic Frost 2004 V6

Hey new guys! :D

If you have a 2004/2005 there is a TSB available to you for that. Have you taken it to the dealer yet and demand that they reflash your ECU to take care of it?

Unfortunately, 2006/2007 ECU has different program so we can't get a fix yet.

Soooo - if you HAVE had that done already and it STILL acts up on you, then by all means, please report it! ;)

Thanks!

I did that, they flashed the ECU and replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Still have the same problem. Now it's getting worse. Almost as if the Tranny is going bad from all the lunging forward that car as been doing trying to decide what to do when I accelerate. I read the other post as mentioned above, and was going to reply but it has been locked out. So I thought I would start another one and see what everyone else has done.

I had the same issue with the near stop/on gas transition every day when I "slowed" to cross oncoming traffic at a "median" that had a "roll-thru" type stop-sign as I would turn onto the highway on-ramp....

Car would be "coasting"/decelerating and then, either come to a complete BUT BRIEF stop-n-go or just a NEAR stop.... and upon punching the pedal.... NADA, for a good, long, second, before the car would "grab/lurch" and then pull forward....

SIMPLE SOLUTION:

In my case, the "DR. JOHN's" vacuum "fix" helped initially, then the CP-e kit absolutely ELIMINATED this conditon....

Now when I "punch" it under ANY conditions of deceleration or near stop, the motor GOES and the tranny RESPONDS and I get pretty quick transition to forward motion without the HUGE hesitation, which previously left me "rolling" out in front of traffic until it finally "grabbed".....

That is the fix where you by-pass the small intake, so it always uses the larger intake box right"? yeah i did that and that still didn't fix the issue. I have tried almost everything. Can't seem to get anything to work. Maybe I can get them to replace the tranny as well!!!!

After calling Toyota HQ. the local dealership called me. Told me there was a new software update for the car. MAybe this was the ECU update that PXLpainter was talking about. Not really sure. Going to take it up in about 1,000 miles when my next oil change is due. We'll see what the out come is.

Sorry to be so harsh on this one, but this is a well discussed topic.

If you hit the search button at the top, enter in "Throttle Lag" and search for all terms + Enter. You'll get a pretty good list. (Because it's been discussed a lot.)

Here are a couple from my search.

I did do the search and read all the articles, did the original ECm update and it still didn't fix the problem. Complained every time I took the car in to get the oil change (Mobil 1 full synthetic) and still have the issue. I'm just passing on the news in case that any one else is still having the issue. Also wanted to do some of the mods that the other have done, intake, exhaust, but am hesitant untill Toyota fixes this issue.

My biggest concern is that this Thottle Lag has cause the tranny to go bad. I am the type of driver that is on the gas or on the brake. There is no inbetween for me. So this problem is very frustrating. Love Toyota cars and if I don't want to sell this one because of this annoyance. Just want Toyota to fix it.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to explain my position on this matter. Have been dealing with it since day one of purchase and have read almost every post in the formuns on it and tried all the tricks with out moding with all treats (Little Holoween Humor)

Thanks for listening.

I took my Gen2 in WITH the TRD exhaust and Injen Intake installed. The service manager really liked it. Perhaps the combination of the TSB, SRI and exhaust fixed the issue. I had no complaints afterwards.

Good luck
