2007 Solara SLE V6

Postby ItalianRN » Tue Oct 03, 2006 6:06 pm

I just joined the forum. Just wanted to say Hello & ask a question.

I plan on buying a 2007 Solara SLE V6 Coupe next month. I'm just not sure if I'm getting it for a good price. The only additional features I want are the tinted windows, Sunroof Wind Deflector, & Wheel locks. The salesman gave me a price of $26,125 MSRP plus 500 handling fee & $1597 in taxes. The total came to $28,222. I also want the VSC & TRAC. He said that would be approximately $600 more. Grand Total of $28,822. Do you think this is a good price?

I'd also like to know what people think about the Designer Edition roof. Is is durable? It's approx. $1,800 more. It looks really nice but I don't know how well it holds up. I plan on keeping this car a few years & I don't want a roof that starts shredding. The salesman avoided talking to me about it. I'm not sure why. He told me that I don't need that & that it's "not me". It reminded me of the rag tops that the old Caddy's had. I liked it. Any thoughts or experience with these tops?

This will be my first new car.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Edmunds.com will give you the list price for the car in your region and also what people are paying. Never heard of that roof option on Toyota, must be in your area or dealer.

First of all - welcome! :)

Where are you located? Without seeing all the options on your car its hard to tell if you're getting a good deal or not - but check it against others that are similarly offered online.

If you're in SoCal area, then check out CarsonToyota.com and get a quote from Dianne the internet/fleet sales rep - she will beat any deal out there! No - I don't get any commission for referring her - she's just helped a lot of people I know that didn't think they could even get financed...

Anyway - good luck to you - and hope to hear that you got a new ride soon - make sure to come back and let us know! :)

Wait - I blew right past that one! :o

Are you talking about a 70's style glue-down Vinyl Top on a Solara?

ACK!!!! :x [insert puke emoticon here]

Designer Top

Postby ItalianRN » Thu Oct 05, 2006 2:29 am

I'm not sure what the top is made of. It looked like some type of material, but I'm not sure. Since the salesman blew it off, I just dropped the subject with him. I will find out when I go back to Toyota.

I'm located in near Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

The car has all the standard features that the SLE V6 comes with, which is just about everything. There really isn't much to add to it. I went on the Toyota site & entered my zip, & everything that came with it then is exactly what this car had.

Thanks for your replies. I'll let you know when I find out more about the roof.

im guessing you tried al hendrickson, thats where mine was bought about 6.5 years ago. The people were nice and all but I do not know about the price. Id look into that roof thing and see if you can get down a little. I think nearly 29 is a little too high but thats just me.

From one Italian to another....$500 handling fee is bogus...should not be there. As for the roof, that is aftermarket add-on and dealership makes a lot of money on those things. Keep in mind if you decide to trade or sell down the road, adding the roof may make it less marketable. Tinted windows and wheel locks....again, dealer makes a lot of money on these and you can do much better having them done on your own. Just becuase dealer has all these "add-ons" done doesn't mean they are warranteed, either, so keep that in mind. Lastly, I have the sunroof deflector and have taken it off. After many attempts at positioning, and speaking to others, the deflector actually worsens the noise instead of improving it.

As for determining price, use edmunds, kbb, nada, etc., price out the vehicle with the standard and optional factory offered items and see where you sit with MSRP versus invoice and try to get as close to invoice as possible. There is also a 2% of base price that is held back by Toyota that the dealer gets when he sells the car. So if he sells you the car for $25k, he will get $520 from Toyota for selling the car.

Hope this helps and good luck

Doesn't sound like they're discounting the MSRP at all. The coupes aren't selling all that well and have been pretty negotiable since the introduction of the Gen. 2 Solara. Number one rule when buying a new car is to come up with your own sale price, not one the dealer gives you.

I thought the SLE V6 comes with Traction control standard, not optional. I wouldn't buy the sunroof wind deflector as those are pretty much useless and a waste of money. Wheel locks you can buy at autozone or discount auto. Don't buy little things like these from the dealer.

The price tag is a little high to me but its pretty good since I saw a 06 Solara V6 coupe not long ago at Toyota of Orlando that had a base price at $29,000.

Thank you to everyone for the info. I did try to price it on Edmunds, but it would only let me price the 2006. I'll try again. I'll also try some other sites that were mentioned.

You've convinced me to forget about that Designer top & the wind reflector for the sunroof. The Vehicle Stability & Traction Control are not part of the standard package.

I'm going to get prices from a couple of other dealers also.

Thanks again for your help.
