That's kinda odd... I'd check your fuses, then go to the dealer if it continues to be an issue.

Mine doesn't work either...I'm convinced it because the top rubs on the coils when it goes down.

Your situation is more understandable, however he has a SE Sport... No top to rub :-P

Oh, I know...I was just commiserating :D

One of these days I'll take it in to Toyota and complain. I'm sure it's the top.

Depends on what you're trying to clear. Frost should melt quickly. Fog inside the window should clear eventually. Fog outside the window may not clear quickly at all. Remember, this feature is for clearing temperature induced fog, or frost. A heavy morning dew was not meant to be cleared with the rear defogger.

I have the same problem with my "04 SLE Convt. The problem is that I DID take it to Toyota (under warranty) and they gave it back to me and said it WAS working.

Since it really has been nice weather here in PA/NJ (home/work) I havent really had a chance to really test it.

Actually, I dont know how the hell I should test it other than shaving some ice cubes over my back window and seeing if they melt with lines through it... :drinking:

Thanks,

Mayor

i had tints for over a year and it was working fine. the car was parked for 2 weeks since i was on vecation, when i came back it was raining and the window was foggy so i turned the switch on and it is not working, even though the light in the switch turns on. if the fuse was blown out would the light turn on on the switch?

The coils are easy to damage. They can be broken by washing your window.

Only a few coils on my car work. Like I said, I'm convinced it's due to the top rubbing on the coils and damaging them.

I know this is an old thread, but my 2007 Solara Convertible's rear defroster isn't working. The light turns on when I press the button and the side mirrors do heat up and clear. I checked the rear glass and it DOESN'T get warm at all.

I checked the fuse and it's totally fine. Is there anything else I should try before I hit up the dealer?

I ended up getting it repaired under warranty by the dealer. They had to order a completely new top, and they sublet it out to a local professional convertible top installer.

I have a new top, the rear defroster is working now, and the whole process only took two full business days.

I also ran my Solara through the automatic car wash, and no leaks! :)

On a similar but different take, my rear defroster ('04 SE Coupe) causes static through my speakers when I have the radio on. I haven't checked to see if it interferes with the CD player. I'm scratching my head on this one. I'd have to believe I don't have a solid ground somewhere.

Cheers,

Joe

If you have a multimeter check for 12V at the window connectors. If you have power, switch to 'continuity' and make sure there's a good path through all the tracings. If there's no continuity one of the tracings may have gotten scratched and broken (it doesn't take much). You can buy rear window defroster repair tape. You just have to locate the break if there is one.

Cheers
