Transmission Slipping??

Transmission Slipping??

Postby MrMikeL » Tue Oct 18, 2005 6:49 am

This is worrisome. I was turning a corner in a residential area the other day, going nice and slow because of kids in the car and outside. When I accelerated coming out of the turn, the transmissin seemed to slip. The engine revved, but I wasn't going anywhere. After about 2-3 seconds, it kicked back into gear. This has happened a couple of other times in similar conditions: low gear acceleration.

Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas what it might be before I go to the dealer and have them tell me it's nothing?

I'm in denial about my transmission. I noticed in the first week I had it that there was an issue. Sometimes when I let off the pedal, the engine revs too far, then pauses, then dumps it into the next gear harshly. It gives a jerky tow rope effect.

Also, my first impression of the auto stick was that it was similar to the Porsche 911 tiptronic in the 996. This isn't a good thing. It basically means the autostick will downshift, but the upshift is not doing anything. So you shift from 1-2 and it takes another 2 seconds for the transmission to shift from 1-2. This happens on all gears. A G35C will shift immediately into the gear the auto stick selects so I know this is possible.

It's hard to get any service to act on this type of intermittent problem. I had an Acura integra automatic that had the same jerky, late shifting from new. The problem was the ECM / (also acting as the tranny controller) was shorted out by a spilled cup of coffee and shredding clutches in the automatic transmission. I found that one out after warranty expiration and two new transmissions.
