It is a coating on the leather, kind of like the clear coat on your paint. Most leather is coated with it (cars, furniture, etc.). If your car is under the 36k mile warranty I would think it would be covered...

I forgot to close my window twice and that driver side arm rest was soaked and full of water. Still, i never had that peeling problem...must be luck.

It should only take a few minutes to replace.

I suspect acid rain (H2SO4) had some effect on it. I had a similar issue on a 300ZX when I lived in Chicago.

Did your seats get water stains from when the window was left open?

(Or, it could be a defective part - LOL) Letme know if you have any trouble with the dealer in getting it replaced. I have a friend in Interior design at TTC - Ann Arbor.

I took my car into the dealer to get the peeling door panel looked at among some other things and this is what they said...

52 Warranty Done CUST STATES DRIVER DOOR PANEL PEALING.CHECK AND ADVISE. COULD NOT R & R UNDER WARRANTY/OUTSIDE INFLUENCE.

The service director denied the order, so I have to make an appointment to talk to him so he can make an appointment with the district manager to look at the car and decide whether or not it'll be under warranty. DAMN. So what should I tell them? Am I screwed here?
