Brake Pedal Rattle/Loose

Brake Pedal Rattle/Loose

Postby online » Tue Sep 14, 2004 2:08 pm

I've noticed that my brake pedal is starting to make noise when releasing the pedal after braking. Also I took a look and it also seems to have horizontal play - moving the pedal from side to side with my hand. Has anyone experienced this and if so can it be tightened/adjusted.

Thanks in advance

squeaking sounds? from brake? or just padel?
if it's from brake, check ur brake pad if it's out, or check if the rotor is clean.

if it's from padel, it's probably the oil on the spring is out.
you can just go back and tell dealer squeaking sounds from padel, they will just apply some more oil on the top of the padel which connects spring.

The sound is from the pedal. The pedal has play in it when you release it and then it travels probably up to a 1/4 inch upward. The pedal also has play side to side - 1/2 travel. I'll have the dealer check it out. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

Thanks to all that responded

I will be settting up an appt with the dealer. Once again there is play in the pedal. It doesn't effect braking in any way shape or form. Its just an annoying noise due to play in the pedal mechanismwhen I release the pedal.

Stay tuned....

Just came back from the dealer. Oil change at 1000miles and had them check the brake pedal noise. No problem was found. Next time the Service Manager will check it out. He wasn't available while I was at the dealership. Not a big deal but I would like to find out if it can be quieted. I'll probably need to sit in another 05 and test for the same condition. I don't recall experiencing the noise the first 500 miles or so.

Stay tuned...

I too noticed that my brake pedal has become loose. No noise, just have a lot of play vertically and horizontally. I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow and will update.

The service person told me that the loose brake pedal is normal. I guess if enough people complain, they'll open a TSB.

Thanks for the update. When I go in for my oil change (3K to go) I will be working with the Service Manager on this. What I want to do is go to a new Solara and check the pedal. If there is no play that will provide the evidence that this condition isn't normal.

Stay tuned....
