Changing Airfilter - 3.3 litre

Changing Airfilter - 3.3 litre

Postby online » Mon Aug 23, 2004 3:52 pm

not being overly mechanically inclined and the car only being 3 days old, I wanted to make sure I only take apart what I need to replace the air filter.

Looking at the airbox there appears to be 2 nuts on one end. Are removing these all I need to do before attempting to pop the airbox up?

Thanks in advance

I installed the TRD filter in my Solara last month without much difficulty. You need to remove the 2 bolts as you have said. I also removed (pulled off) either one or two small vacuum hoses from the front of the air box to give me a bit more access to the filter.

Take a good look at the position and alignment of the OE filter and then put your new one in exactly the same way.

I recall the hardest part was getting the bolts to line up again when putting it back together. Start each bolt just a turn or two first and then tighten each of them a few turns at a time to keep things lined-up properly.

Also, make sure you install the filter in the right direction. This is very important because I had it in wrong and had a hell of a time tightening the box. Then I took out the filter and turned it and it sealed up tight and without a problem.

I know this sounds noob, but the location of the airbox is not obvious to me, and the owner's manual does not show how to replace the filter. If you are standing in front of the car (with 3.3 engine) where would the airbox be located? Thanks

Look for the air scoop mounted above the radiator. It goes to the airbox located just behind the battery. See below.

Man that's an old thread. But a legit revival nonetheless. Still, it smells a bit like old feet.
