Just curious to anyone that has a 2004 or knows about the 2005 se convertible but does it come with 5 speed automatic with tiptronic sportshift?

Thanks
Shawn

As far as I remember, all Solara convertibles come with the same transmission, a 5-speed shiftable automatic. It's not exactly Tiptronic, since Tiptronic is a Volkswagen specific transmission (Porsche, Audi and VW).

I believe only the V6 models come with 5-speed electronically controlled sequential automatic overdrive with intelligence (ECT-i). It doesn't matter if the model is SE, SE Sport, SLE, or the convertible. Only the V6 has it...and that was one of the reasons I got a V6 too.

take a look at this http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/2005/cam ... specs.html

looks like i was wrong, its standard w/ the six

i still prefer a true manual,not these manual mode autos.less complicated,more dependable.

The initial question was about the convertible SE. To clarify: all convertibles come only with a V6 and only with the shiftable (ECT-i) 5-speed automatic transmission. There are no other drivetrain choices among convertibles.

and how is the (ECT-i) 5-speed automatic transmission?
is it the same thing as steptronic? and does anyone have a pic of it?

It acts like a steptronic, yes. Pictures are on the Toyota.com website, interior photos I thought. From the drive position, you move the lever to the left and it goes to 4th gear. You then push up to go up a gear or push down to go down a gear each time. Feels pretty much like a manual transmission without using a clutch. More of a delay in changing gears though than a manual which is pretty instant.

Arthur,
Try this link of pics of my car: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4286190399

In there is a pic pretty closeup of the transmission. You can view the original pic in a larger size.
