I drove a manual for the past 5 years and now that I am driving my Solara which is an auto, I always forget to put it into park before I turn the car off. Is that really bad for the car?

I can't see why this would be really harmful to the transmission. I have never read anything to the contrary. You cannot start the car while its in drive (as long as the safety interlock is working as it should) so its not really hazardous from a safety standpoint either.

You can't remove the key in Drive, so i'm assuming your in "N" when you indicate your not paking in PARK. I did not know the key came off at N, intresting. learnt something new today! Must go home and try it.

Should be fine because whenever I have to remove the stereos in most cars, I generally have to put the gear all da way to da last one to remove the center consoles because there's no room and the shift gets in da way.

Just as long as you're not movin like TRDMole177 said.
