hissing sound in the front wheel well

hissing sound in the front wheel well

this past weekend i had driven up to pittsburgh to visit some college buddies of mine. with the 4 hour drive, an end result was bug guts splattered randomly throughout the front of my hood. since i've been stuck late after work i haven't been able to wash my car ( i plan on doing an overhual tomorrow with weather permitting). anyway, today when i came back home, i took the hose to it to wash and try to get some of the residue off to prevent it from continually staying on the car hood. as i was spraying down my car, i aimed and sprayed into the from wheel well and heard a hissing sound. it pretty much sounded like if you had left a dry pot on the stove for alittle with the stove on high and then put water in it. the thing that made me think of the sound as odd is that with my previous car (96 avalon) i never had the sound at all whenever i washed the car. another thing is that my drive to and from work is only about 20 minutes top. pretty much what i am asking is the sound i heard just something natural (like the engine being hot and the water cool makes the hissing sound when it hits the car's body or from the brake pads), or is the hissing sound sort of unusual. this is my first time ever hearing it for any car so i'm alittle curious personally.

Had you just driven the car when you hosed it down? I know it sounds dumb, but when water hits a hot surface, it hisses and evaporates. If you had just driven it for 20 minutes, it would have been heated up by then, including your rotors etc.

Your rotors get extremely hot when driven even for 10 minutes, so when water touches the surface, it will immediately evaporate and produce a slight hiss. The only other hissing sound could be a tire loosing air. Check the psi in your tires.

yeah i checked my psi which read fine so i guess it was just with the rotors and just from driving.. i was just alittle paranoid since i haven't heard it before with other cars i have driven. thanks for the info though.. big relief off my chest. hahaha it may have sounded like a dumb question but least its taken care of

The only dumb questions are the one's that are not asked. Remember that. Good luck to you.
