I would like to see it go too, but I'm afraid that won't happen.

That's what I was thinking! It'd be so cool if there were Lexus logos that were the same sizes as the Toyota logo... it'd confuse people so much!

Sorry to defer from all of you guys that think that the butt of Gen 2 is ugly, I respect everyone's opinion, but everyone has different tastes and preferences, and in my case, I've NEVER liked the Gen1 Solara, I saw a couple of them and for me it was an ordinary Coupe, always liked more the Accord Coupe, but once I saw the Gen 2 I said , WOW, that's the car I want, and in 7 months I've been an owner of 2 (Coupe SLE and now the Convertible).

Well it's a matter of what people likes more, 1 thing I have noticed in all this threads, is that 99% of the people that doesn't like Gen2 butt are Gen1 owners, so, using your same words, "we now know what you like".

I definetely like the Gen 2 design incl the butt. I wouldn't even consider buying the car if i thought it is ugly even for a moment...

Back on topic, the BMW 330 is a superior car on a better platform (FR).

Well considering the pasting I put on a 325/328 (see my racing thread) today with my Gen1, I will argue that till the cows come home. The only thing they have that I want is RWD. That's it. I'll take the Solara's engine, trany, and interior finishing over a BMW's any day. Plus, the money I save would cover half the cost of a GREAT ring for my lil lady.

And just to re-emphasize it, BMW'S RELIABILITY RATINGS SUCK!

Dude, read my earlier post. I said the M3 was an entirely different cat.

M3, well now, that's a completely different cat :D

Talking 330 or lower vs. Gen2 Solara.

Last night, I had a friend come over to try and settle this speed issue for myself. I drove my wife's 330 and gave him the keys to my solara. We went down to the a place near his work that basically dead ends at his warehouse. At that time of night, there was'nt much traffic.

At a distance close to a quarter mile, I beat my own solara 3 straight times. It was somewhat close right off the line but in the end it was never closer than a car length.

Both cars are straight stock. I have the convertible Solara, which is heavier, so you guys with the coupes might do a little better. I think the Solara tries to be to many things to too many people to seriously challenge the BMW on a performance basis. The BMW really only tries to be one thing, a car for driving enthusiasts, wheras toyota tries to have a car that appeals to the masses.

Solara's engine, and tranny? Dude, the tranny is smooth, that's it. So is the engine, which Toyota intends for economy purposes...

Your race is just a highway race. How about try launching the car from 0 and wheelhop all the way?

To me, Solara is just Toyota's attempt to make a sporty-looking cruiser. Ever since they discontinued the Supra TT, there's no real sports car (other than the MRS and excluding Lexus) in their lineup.

IS300 on the other hand can compete with the 3-series, especially when you can just bolt on the MKIV Supra parts like the 4pot calipers without any modifications.

Just be happy of what we get, which isn't intended to be a 3-series conpetitor.

I have and neither the 325 or 328 (both owned by ex-GFs and I drove them a LOT) could take me from stop.

Will a 330 own a Gen1? Absolutely.

My point was w/ the Gen2 it should be close, actuary demonstrated w/ his 330 and cov. Gen2. The 330 won, but it doesn't sound like its doors were blown off.

Just curious, but was it AUTO VS. AUTO? Or was the 330 a manual?

The 330 was a manual but I've only driven the car about 4 times prior. Mainly because, my wife generally uses it as her daily driver and the car while fun to drive is'nt all that great to ride in as a passenger. So when its both of us we generally take my car. I haven't regularly driven a stick in about 5 years.

Also I was under the impression that the Solara slushbox was very efficient with a minimal loss of power.
