If I get enough responses I can graph it out by model and post it. I'll use the trade/down and payment to figure the true cost including taxes and finance charges. If you live in Oregon, good for you.

07 SE Convertible, with factory installed windscreen, power seat, dealer installed chrome 17" wheels and tires. Got it for about a grand off sticker, wheels and tires for free. No trade in.

:D

Most of the dealers told me they never come off sticker for a convertible. My response?

NEXT!

Someone in the other thread gave an example of what they thought dealer invoice was by saying 25,000 MSRP 24,000 Invoice, and the dealer probably got it for 20-21. This is false.

The invoice of the car listed on edmunds is what the dealer pays, so anything over that amount is how much he makes.

If an employee buys the car he gets it at invoice plus around 3% off the base .

So for my 06 SE Sport V6 the MSRP was $27,224
LA,SR,EJ,PC,WL
and the invoice listed is $24,694. Employees are the only ones who can get it for below invoice, dealers pay invoice even. The invoice on my Solara was $22,500.

I had the 04 SE Sport non V6 no LA which was about $22.500 MSRP and employee discount got it around $18 and some change.
all numbers w/o tax.

Holdback? (or whatever it was called... seems everything I've read in researching says that invoice is not the bottom line for the dealer...)

You are correct. Dealers get all kinds of incentives that make their cost come out to below invoice. Car salesmen are ALL shady, and car dealers are rip off artists.

They'd sell even more cars than they already do if they were just honest and fair with everyone.

Yeah, a dealer was trying to sell me a used Solara for more than I got mine new (at a different dealer). They were the same model and everything, one was just a year older and 20k miles on it.

Buy it from fleet, they don't play the "let me talk to my manager" game.

Well, I know I'm late on THIS thread... but I didn't see anyone else lay theirs out like this.... so the logic was, how do I buy the car I want and keep it below $300/Month?

Deal Date: January 15th, 2004 (One of the "earlybirds"!)

2004 Solara SE V6 Sport Coupe

- 6disk w/8spkr JBL
- Moonroof
- Sport Rubber
- Mats

2500 down
<300/mt as a lease payment for 48 months

guaranteed buyout @ $12,000

2500 down again
<300/mt for 48 months

A 299 dollar Solara in eight years.

Seams like a "long term plan".... and it is, but it works well from a cash-flow impact basis. People don't believe me when I say "I pay $299/mt for this car..." In reality, I'll pay it off in the final two years sometime, so it'll be "free-n-clear" after around 6 years. I'll enjoy it (WITH modifications coming now to keep it interesting) that amount of time standing on my head... and I KNOW the Toyota reliability and performance are there for me.... I've put nearly a quarter million miles on one supra, had two others... (still have the MK III - see my avatar), and three Toy trucks, not to mention my wifes camry/highlander experience and everyone else in my family driving Toyotas.... I think 299 for a car like this is a very good value, myself... and it leaves me some cash-flow for upgrades as well!

This car is at 50,000 miles now, and it looks and runs PERFECT! I have run synthetic rotated every 3-5k miles on mostly highway driving. Dr. John's vacuum mod & K&N drop-in at the moment... Tranny flushed thoroughly recently, made a noticable difference. iPod, B. Potenza 225/50/17's, and just starting to mod. TRD on, CP-e MAF coming Monday, suspension etc... near future. I kept the option open to "leave the car", but w/a year left on my lease, I've decided I definitely want to buy it out for 12k when the time comes. It looks as good as the day I bought it, and runs MUCH better already. I wouldn't be able to touch this well kept a ride for 12k with the confidence that I can place in mine.

^^Yes, your monthly payment is low, but the end result is a higher price for the car because of interest. You are leasing for the first part, and the interest is built into the lease payment, then you are going to refi it and pay more interest over the 3 extra years (over normal loan) than a normal 5 year term.

Sure, it may make sense if your monthly cash flow is the issue, but yo pay more in the long run.
