Engine belts in the Gen2

I haven't really checked my warranty information, but does anybody know if the belts are covered under the extended platinum(?) warranty ?

^^ Guess you'll have to check your warranty information now, huh? ;)

It will be on the lat page under "Covered Items"

I would say they are probably not...usually those warranties only cover MAJOR parts...of course there are extended BUMPER TO BUMPER warranties...maybe you have one of those.

Well, it's been a week since I have had the belts changed, and the squeal is better, but not completely gone. I thought I'd give it some time, incase they needed to break in.

So, anyone else know what it could be? Now, it's only happening at startup, does not continue throught warm up. One large squeal.

JMSinMaryland, you're a service advisor, any ideas?

I really want to go to the ealer with a list of things, as I'm nearing the end of my warranty, and I want this fixed for free :D

Thanks!

EDIT: I should add that the squeal doesn't always happen, it's more likely to happen after sitting overnight, but not always.

FYI, my invoice shows the following part numbers for the belts:

90916-A2009 Belt, V-Ribbed
99366-21040 -83 Belt, V-Ribbed

Just in case that helps if you are doing yourself.

Did the dealer happen to state what the estimated cost is in the invoice to replace those belts? I want to get a rough idea of how much it is going to cost before I bluntly take it in.

Mine will squeel after sitting for a while. I don't think it's belts. I think it's lack of oil until it gets moving... sounds bad.

I could be wrong, but I don't know. If yours continues making that noise, keep us informed. I've questioned it before.

Obviously I never followed up on it. Maybe I should have.

No, the invoice just says WARRANTY, so I don't know how much. However, you have the part numbers, so you could just call your service dept. and ask. I'm sure it's a fairly common procedure, so they would most likely be able to give you a close quote. You could also just call the parts dept and get the prices for the belts before you ask about the replacement...then you'd know exactly how much they will charge for labor, them maybe go somewhere else after you buy the belts.

Any service dept will look that up for you on the phone and give you a parts&labor price. They have the expected hours for just about anything.

Not true, the common stuff, yes. But when you have a leaking ABS distributor in a Rav 4, etc, etc, I don't have a price list for that.

I got my drive belt replaced at 15,000 miles. The part # was 90916-A2005.
This squeaking sound only happens after a rain shower. I think it is the moisture that causes the drive belt to squeak. It only happens during cold startup. The second you pull into drive, the noise is gone. The stealership never explained what the problem was, they just said we replaced the drive belt.
