how to repair door using a knife (for noobs)

Postby Yehor » Thu Jun 29, 2006 7:31 am

plates looks like "AA 1234 AA"
something like that :)

maybe its very rare problem for solara, but it was only one way to fix it. and i did it :)

PS I am not alone here, I found some other solaras too :) So after comparing with other car i decide to little fix the door (OMG, english word FIX instead of REPAIR, now i see why you so shocked hehe). now its similar to another working solara.

BTW to clarify there have been some other Solaraguy's in Russia. One guy got his Gen 1 looking like JoeB's ~> TRD4LIFE which is similar to the original Solara pacecar.

The reason his plates are red because they are "temporary import" plates - ie the car is not permanently registered to a physical person or corporation who resides in ukraine. Another possibility is that it is registered to someone outside of Ukraine and he drives it "by authorization" - weird concept, but the whole idea is avoiding to pay import taxes, which are about 40% of total car value (or something close to 40%).

I was in Kiev, Ukraine last and this past spring - and second time around saw a few more solaras. I might have actually seen Yehor's too - as there are like a total of 3-5 for the entire city (way many more BMWs around though :)

There are (what i saw):
A red SE Sport - not sure of engine.
Black SLE V6
Black SE V6 (I was coming back from grocery store and, forgetting where i was for a second, almost tried to get into it thinking it was my car :)
Silver SLE (Yegor's?)

Just as FYI - as of May 2006, the price for a solara (used) in Kiev was in $50K range, which is crazy. Servicing is easy - there are a TON of camrys and lexuses with same engines in Ukraine and there are PLENTY of authentic toyota/lexus dealers around.

It was always fun to hear people do an equivalent of "daaaaaaamn" when they heard i drive "the new solara" :)

Ya, I once put a knife to my old Saturn to cut a hole for the CAI, and then I sold it. Moral of the story, I don't know. I just wouln't put a knife to my car against reasonable parts, maybe something useless I won't feel as bad about.
