How Accurate Are Your Fuel Readings?

Postby kingkakyle » Wed Dec 07, 2005 9:34 am

its different for everyone....it is just an estimate of your range based on the average MPG uve been getting....mines been increasing lately because ive been doing a lot of highway driving. so when u fill up it resets it to what ur average MPG has been over the past X amount of tanks. and it updates every mile it goes down

Here's the breakdown:

The MPG reading (mine is 21.0) can be reset by holding the display button on the steering wheel for a few seconds, clearing the memory of your driving.

The range (usually 300 for me) depends on your driving, it uses the same data as the MPG readout.

When that guys car was in an accident, it probably spent a lot of time idling to give the workers A/C or just to test. Idling is going to kill your MPG and Range.

When you get your car at first, the engine has been running in some weird circumstances, like around the lot, short distances and idling. This will make your MPG suck too when you get the car at first.

For the first six months I never reset my MPG, it was languishing at 19.8. Then I reset it and drove like there was an egg under my foot. That got me up to 22. So you can change it a little with driving style, but most of it depends on the freeway to city ratio.

Dude, you're from Hell, Az. Cool! - probably nice and warm over there, is like Zero degrees in KS today.

Thanks for the insight, makes sense.
