changed my springs...

Postby cablemn » Mon Mar 21, 2005 3:09 pm

Maybe i was oversensitive about it but it seemed from this post on------>What did you achieve by replacing the springs??? Wouldn’t it have been more beneficial to replace the struts...
including the 3 questionmarks, that the tone was a little on the demeaning side. And then this post------>HAHHAHAHA^^^ That is what Im talking about!!!!!!!! The STRUTS would have been the best way to go........
seemed like i was being laughed at. But in any case its good to have a spirited back and forth discussion. I'll just accept that this was a misunderstanding of disrespect toward me i dont know, but i do know this, when i post im very careful of what i type because its hard to convey feeling and intention with this kind of writing and its easy to confuse a question with a flaming. Back to the subject on my next post...

cable mm isnt not recommeded that you install the springs on an SLE. I heard eventually your shock are gonna blow because the SLE was not intended to be used with the springs. On the other hand... the dealer said it was perfectly fine to have them on a SE cause of the sports tuned suspension? Can anyone verify if this is valid?
The only reason struts would "blow" would be if you exceed the amount of usable travel for that particular strut by putting in springs that are exceedingly low or high, or by using springs that are worn or too soft allowing the strut to bottom out on bumps. The difference in height between the stock SLE springs and the SE SPORT springs is only a quarter inch lower thereby NOT exceeding the normal travel of the strut. Our warrantee backs this up by covering the application of TRD springs in our cars WITHOUT changing to different struts. And as i said before the difference in ride is so subtle but for me its just right.

Cablemn:
I appreciate your info about your spring mods. I probably would have done the same thing you did if I could have gotten a good deal on the SE spring set and installation as you.

Too bad Toyota didn't/ doesn't offer the SE sport tuned suspension as an option on the SLE. I would have certainly paid the extra $$$ for it. Big mistake on their part.

Youre right posh, but mama didnt raise no fool. I wouldve gotten raped by the stealer. It probably wouldve cost me 4 grand for the body kit and $1200 for struts and springs for a total of $5200!
Instead for the body kit and the suspension i wanted it only cost me $1430 a savings of $3370. Money that i can use for my home renovation.
You just have to have a little patience and not go for the instant gratification and you get what you want and MORE in the long run.
This reminds me of the story of the 2 bulls.
Two bulls were standing at the top of a hill surveying the herd of cows at the bottom when the young bull says to the old one:
Hey! Lets run down there and bang that beautiful heffer!
The old bull says to the young one:
Nah...lets WALK down there and bang em ALL.
get it?

Cablemn: You're dead-on right! As a factory option I might have been willing to pay $200 or maybe $300 for a sport suspension package. (I bet the actual difference in part/production costs are a fraction of this). As a $1200 dealer add-on, they can stick it!

I went with the TRD spring/stock strut set up 12K miles ago and now I'm bouncing like a Caddy. Gotta save up a little for the Tokico's and an alignment. Sucks being a college kid with a nice car!

I dont know what toyota is thinking when they come out with half a suspension upgrade. How do you release lowering springs without any alternative whatsoever to stock struts. im glad i didnt go with the more radical trd springs now. I'll wait and see what kind of struts become available from bilstien or koni in a few months.....or years.
