soundz reasonable. But why not just get a direct Aux input? Then you don't have to worry about it. But your theory makes sense.

Direct aux output is pretty pricey. On the contrary, I can get a Belkin FM Transmitter for pretty cheap from a friend of mine at Circuit City

FM transmitters are too great in my 06 Solara

Postby sancoes » Sat Jun 04, 2005 4:45 pm

From my experience, FM transmmitters aren't the way to go if you want to play MP3 in you stereo. I bought one recently and got a very poor reception. And even when I managed to get sound without distortion, it was pretty low quality (worst that the radio)
Has anyone here had any success with an FM transmitter?

Takes some serious coin to get FM that has even adequate sound. I heard one that was more expensive than my AUX2CAR and it sounded almost radio quality.

An FM transmitter more than Aux2car? How much did you raux2car run you? The Belkin Transmitter is $40 when I researched it.

Could someone list what is it that I exactly need? the ipodlounge forum seems a bit confusing listing what I need. Again, I have a the non-jbl system without navigation and no cd changer (those instructions are with a changer).

Alright folks, I finally got my ipod. 20GB, $200, brand spankin' new off ebay. Now which direction do I go, FM transmitter or aux connection (do I need a cd changer for an aux connection)?

Tutorial section has the Aux2Car requirements all listed out.
aux2car is running $75 but well worth it compared to an FM.
AuxPod is running $150. That gets you control from the wheel buttons. Seems over priced to me but if you really want the controls...

Do a search on either for lots of feedback here on the forum.
The adapter harnesses will be about $20 I think.

What about IPOD2CAR, it gives you control over the wheel buttons too, doesn't it? Didn't it replace AUX2CAR?

I'm not even sure myself. I hear Metra makes one too for a $100, as for steering wheel connections I dont know. I can get it installed for $50 at my local circuit city which aint too bad, most of the guys there use to work for West Coast Customs (think pimp my ride)

ive honestly got to say i was very pleased with my friends iriver thru belkin fm transmitter. i was skeptic at first (especially considering how much money all of it took), but it performed very well. his camry has the automatic electric antenna mounted by the trunk. and i was playin with the unit and stuff and not one studder.

but i will say that the chords and wires and crap got annoying. especially since he has a radar detector that also requires a cigarette lighter plugin.

i didnt want to tell you guys, but i never got my HU fixed once the cd changer fouled up. so i got the 'car ready' sony walkman with cassette adapter lol. definately not macho. cigarette lighter power source too. wires are gae!!!

Hey folks, so I put my tried placing my ipod in the storage complartment of my can and it seems to be a bit deep, it covers a good portions of the click wheel. What kinda of docking stations are there to place in that compartment? (NOT the cupholder docks either, i hate those)

Fm transmitters are no good man. Especially for you guys in highly populated cities with a lot of fm stations, it is pretty dangerous trying to tune in a station that will sound decent and still drive straight in traffic! So, either purchase a HU with an auxillary input, which is what I did with my Clarion, or pick up the direct connection, you will be much less frustrated. I tried the Belkin, iTrip, you name it and finally stepped up and bought the new HU and am much happier now. Wish I would have waited a couple months and picked up the new Alpine with built in iPod controls, but Clarion has a new connection which is supposed to be pretty good too. Just my .02.

I used friend's iTrip in my car.... signal is trash.
As far as a holder, just get an iSkin for $20... protects your iPod (which will get scratched very badly otherwise) and its screen. It will sit comfortably in any nook of your car without sliding around basically (rubberized). Looks good too! Only problem is you can't put an iPod with an iSkin into an Apple Docking Port. Doesn't really matter to me though. I just use the cable.
